The Maserati MC20 is the first supercar of the revitalized Maserati brand and a car that the famous Italian company hopes will launch it into a new era of fast, exciting cars. The MC20 was launched back in 2020, and it is powered by a beautiful Nettuno V6 engine and is one of the most dramatic looking Maserati’s of recent times. In fact, it is probably the most exciting looking car to come from the company since the rather eye-watering good-looking MC12, which was based upon the Ferrari Enzo’s underpinnings.
Maserati is lucky in that it has David Beckham on its books as a brand ambassador. Beckham has been a part of the Maserati family since April 2021. The company very recently decided to equip Beckham with its latest car, and created the Maserati MC20 Fuoriserie Edition for David Beckham. This was all about letting Beckham design his own car, and it serves as his letter to the city of Miami, a place the footballer calls his second home. Maserati also recently uploaded a video of Beckham having his first drive in an MC20, and captured his thoughts on the car.
Beckham's Thoughts On The MC20
Beckham drove the car at Modena, and it was the first time he was able to get behind the wheel of the car. You might expect to hear him say it, but the footballing star described the MC20 as “unbelievable” and by far one of the best cars that he has ever driven. He described the feeling he had as being like he was a 16 or 17-year-old again, just wanting to drive around and around again and again, and not wanting to stop, he was having that much fun.
The video uploaded by Maserati also has cockpit shots of Beckham behind the wheel of the car, and he does certainly seem to be enjoying himself at the wheel of the MC20. He says it the sound is incredible, as is the way that the car sticks to the road and its overall performance levels. He also goes on to say that he was excited already about having his own MC20 built for him, but the fact the car will be in Miami means it is in the perfect place for Beckham, which sounds great for Maserati.
Beckham Shows Off His Special Edition MC20
Maserati have also uploaded a video of Beckham driving his new Maserati MC20 special edition, in a video called “A Love letter to Miami”. The video is incredibly fast-paced as he drives the car around Miami, although a few parts of the video have a professional driver on board. In the segments with Beckham behind the wheel, he is looking very happy with his new car, which is wrapped in a stunning glossy black finish with some opaque and pinkish accents dotted around the car. This was inspired by the black and pink team colors of Inter Miami.
Maserati’s press release on the new car has a few of Beckham’s thoughts on his special edition MC20. He said, “I have always been a car enthusiast, so to be part of designing and creating my MC20 through the Fuoriserie customisation program has been an amazing experience”. Beckham goes on to add that “It has been incredible to collaborate with the Maserati team and designers to create this one-off car that is inspired by my second home, Miami, and my football club there. It is a joy to be behind the wheel”.
The Maserati MC20 Itself
The Maserati MC20 is itself a work of art. The car is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 621 hp, and this provides the car with a 0-60 time of just 2.8 seconds, and a top speed of 202 mph. Like its predecessor the MC12, Maserati are planning on taking the MC20 racing at some point, although as of right now, there is no indication to what series the car will end up racing in. The MC20 is said to be quite the versatile supercar, something that again is different to the MC12, with many people feeling that wasn’t the case with the Enzo based design.
A Great Partnership For The Future
The inclusion of David Beckham as a Maserati brand ambassador is a big coup for the company. Beckham is one of the most recognizable sporting stars the world over, and to have him endorse and support your latest project can only be seen as a win for Maserati. What’s more, the special edition MC20 that has been crafted for Beckham is an absolutely stunning creation in itself, portraying the MC20 in a whole new way. This very much feels like the beginning of a great partnership for Maserati that should go well into the future.
