As the global pickup truck market grows year-on-year, we’re going to see a lot of newbies joining the bandwagon from time to time. Much like the 2023 Ford Maverick, awaited by the fans for a while. Frankly, if we look at the US pickup truck bazaar, which is also one of the largest pickup truck markets worldwide, it has grown more than double over the last decade and continues to mushroom exponentially.

Americans love pickup trucks and that’s why the top three slots on the list of bestselling cars in the US, belong to them. These workhorses offer a massive amount of versatility unlike any other vehicle be it work, play, or even pure adventure. This is the prime reason that has fueled the growth of the pickup truck market in the past. Of course, there's also the fact that everyone loves a big vehicle, period.

This is why we had a plethora of newcomer pickups in recent years claiming to be better than the bests, like the Rivian R1T, Hyundai Santa Cruz, and GMC Hummer EV Pickup. Even so, it's Ford that sits at the top of the food chain of the automobile world as the bestselling pickup truck for years, with its F-150.

As the pickup truck market gains momentum in the US, Ford doesn’t want to miss even a single buyer. For those who don't want a full-size pickup, Ford now offers the 2023 Ford Maverick, a cheaper and smaller avatar of its bigger siblings. It may be small, but remember, the Maverick is definitely an all-rounder and could be a bestseller in the making.

In 2021, with the return of the Maverick nameplate, Ford gave the US truck lover an all-new pickup truck that trumpeted a tempting starting price of under $20,000. As one of the smallest beasts from Ford’s stable of pickup trucks, it shared its underpinnings with its cousins, the Ford Escape and the Ford Bronco Sport. It’s built on Ford’s unibody architecture that significantly reduces the weight and so, increases its fuel efficiency at the cost of its towing capacity.

Ford's littlest pickup, the Maverick also became the first pickup truck in the US with a standard full-hybrid powertrain offering the best fuel efficiency out of all its rivals at the time. Under the hood, it carried a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder hybrid powertrain cranking out 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant comes mated to a continuously variable transmission powering the front wheels.

For power-hungry pickup truck buyers, Ford also brought in a 2.0-liter EcoBoost gas engine pumping out 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque for the 2021 Ford Maverick. This powerplant got an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive as a standard feature, with an all-wheel drive as an option. Launched in 2021 as a 2022 model year in three trims, XL, XLT, and Lariat, the Maverick pickup became a runaway success for Ford in its debut year itself. It's Ford’s highest-demand vehicle today as it offers incredible value for the money.
