When Triumph put out the Trident 660 in January 2021, it was admittedly made with beginner riders in mind. With its stripped-down and minimalist design that manages both a modern and a classic look, the focus was on making the bike safe, easy to understand, comfortable, and practical, all of which are traits suited for those unfamiliar with the feeling of riding a motorcycle.

Further, these bikes require very little maintenance, service, and repairs, and when they do, the service intervals are fewer and farther between when compared to similar bikes in the same class and size. Fewer repairs help beginning riders adjust to maintaining a motorcycle.

Triumph chose to make the design of the Triumph Trident 660 rather basic, to both make it more appealing for beginners and to place their focus on other areas of the bike.

That said, just because it's basic doesn't make it any less appealing; several riders have described the bike's appearance as “gorgeous.” The UK even has a version of the bike available that's more restricted, so as to be even more beginner-friendly than the standard version, which is already designed with beginner riders in mind.

The design is more stripped down and minimalist, and in doing so, the focus is on both a plethora of safety features and user-friendly, intuitive technology systems. This bike was made for competition with the popular middleweight naked class of motorcycles that Triumph's competitors put out.

Design And Features Are Simple

The design and features of the Triumph Trident 660 are quite simple, so as not to overcomplicate the appearance and potentially confuse new riders. The chassis is made of steel and features 17-inch aluminum wheels. Further, it has Rain and Road modes, a friendly rider triangle, a slip/assist clutch, and throttle by wire.

The bike also offers ABS and switchable traction control as safety features. On top of that, Michelin Road 5 tires come standard, and these tires have proven their rubber is of high quality. The dashboard has an LCD section that shows the rider basic information, while navigation and more advanced features are the province of the bike's TFT display.

Also available as an option is the My Triumph Connectivity System, giving riders a chance to have their smartphones work in tandem with the bike in order to boost features and improve navigation control. The gas tank also has space cut out for the rider's knees. Triumph also considered the design of the bike when they manufactured it, resulting in a look both modern and classic, inspired by both kinds of other Triumph motorcycles.

Service And Maintenance Rarely Needed

These bikes can travel many, many miles before any sort of maintenance is recommended, let alone required. Triumph even reported that the Trident was the bike among all its others that needed the least amount of repairs and maintenance performed on it over the course of three years. In that time, it was only in the shop for repairs, maintenance, and other services for a total of 8.3 hours.

Of note is that the next low-maintenance bikes clocked in between 11-15.8 hours of shop time for repairs, maintenance, and other services. Triumph has also studied the types of services needed when the Triumph Trident 660 comes into the shop. It reportedly receives its first services after it reaches 600 miles, with subsequent visits reported thrice yearly. During these visits, the bike will have a full set of brake pads fit, a new chain and sprocket installed, and its brake fluid completely changed.

Usually, this bike requires service around 10,000 miles, which is a lot higher threshold than most bikes claiming to be low maintenance. This was even tested with race-level riders giving the engine endurance tests with rough riding to see what would happen to the engines and how long anything took to happen. Further, the Triumph Trident 660 was even designed with service intervals to be few and far between so owners and technicians wouldn't have to focus on that aspect so much.

Basic Specs Are Fairly Standard

A lot of the specs for this bike are relatively common, easy to understand, and straightforward. For example, the base MSRP starts at $7,995, which is fairly standard for a bike of this style, size, and class. Its engine is a 660 cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC triple, and it also showcases a six-speed transmission. Supposedly, the Triumph Trident 660 has an engine that generates 17 lb-ft of torque at 6,250 RPM, as well as 80 HP at 10,250 RPM. It also sports a tubular steel perimeter frame and two-piston caliper brakes with 310 mm discs for its front brake.

Meanwhile, the rear brake sports a single caliper 225 mm disc. Its 24.6-degree rake and 55.2-inch wheelbase are also fairly common among bikes similar to the Triumph Trident 660. The seat of this bike rests 31.7 inches off the ground and it has a weight of 416.7 pounds. Further, its fuel capacity is 3.7 gallons.
