The world of racing requires some level of grit and a race car that has all it takes to win. So, race car manufacturers keep modifying their cars, producing better ones armed for the track.

One of the renowned brands in the world of racing is KTM, that originally started in 1934, making only off-road motorcycles and street bikes. In 2008, they entered the world of racing by producing competitive race cars. To achieve this, KTM started its new line with different X-Bow trims, one of which is the GT2.

In 2021, the Austrian automaker released a new model of its X-Bow GT2. Every factor in this race car shows they made it with competition in mind. KTM kept its focus on the essentials — performance, reduced weight, aerodynamics, and handling. They didn't focus on all these alone, but also rebranded its exterior to look more sophisticated and better equipped for the tracks.

The 2021 KTM X-Bow is the definition of performance and purism in a unique design. Let's take a look at the 2021 X-Bow GT2 and the things we love about it.

If there is anything a sports car cannot do without, it is some massive performance. Performance is the major component required for the track, and KTM did not disappoint its enthusiasts in this aspect. Its collaboration with Audi to make a thoroughbred racing engine paid off well, with the 2021 X-Bow getting a 2.5-liter Audi-inspired five-cylinder TFSI engine. They mated the engine to a six-speed manual gearbox from Holinger.

Audi's engine in this race car produces 530 hp and pumps out a maximum torque of 531 lb-ft at 3,500 to 5,000 rpm. This engine sends power to its rear wheels and can also drive the car to a maximum speed of over 186 mph.

KTM's previous model of the GT2 does 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, and 0-100 mph takes 8.5 seconds. Even though the automaker did not release an official statement on the acceleration of the 2021 model, it is certain that this model will have better acceleration than its predecessor.

Astonishing Aerodynamics And Incredible Handling

KTM figured out that what its car needed was not only performance, but also great aerodynamics. The automaker worked on the downforce and the weight of its race car. They included a larger rear spoiler and enlarged diffuser that balanced its aggressive front splitter. These features do not only aid the car's cool, sporty looks, but they also add to its downforce significantly.

Since KTM continues to reduce the weight of its GT2 for more performance, the 2021 model is no different. After dropping its weight to less than 1,763 lbs, this model is as light as a feather on the track. The automaker worked on its materials, using only carbon fiber to achieve its massive weight reduction. Its smooth underbody also works with these other features, sucking the race car to the ground as it takes turns and bends at high speed.

For design, the X-Bow's beauty has no rival. However, design in sports cars is not for beauty alone, but also for safety, and this starts with the chassis. The X-Bow combines a carbon fiber monocoque structure with a homologated steel roll cage. This design makes it stiff and safe enough to withstand pressure. The chassis, therefore, provides adequate protection for drivers if the car rolls over.

The seats in the X-Bow GT2 are firm, and designed to fit in with its chassis perfectly. They provide enough comfort and follow the FIA safety standards. The steering wheel on the GT2 is firm and improves handling. KTM redesigned the wheels for the 2021 model to improve its grip. It also has an integrated display that provides important information for the driver.

The exterior design of the GT2 is purely to aid aerodynamics. Its complex angles and lines help to keep the car stable at high speed. It has large air tunnels on both sides, which allows for cooling its radiator and engines. This car also has a quick-response braking system, eight-way traction control, and a racing ABS that you can manually adjust.
