Nearly 60 years after its debut, the Shelby Cobra remains legendary. Although AC Cars produced less than 1,000 examples, replicas going for anywhere between $30,000 to $50,000 proliferated over the years—a mere fraction of the starting $300,000 price tag that originals pop up for, and even more minuscule when compared to what Paul Walker’s 427 Cobra FAM should fetch at Mecum’s upcoming Glendale 2021 auction. Despite being out of reach for most car lovers and gearheads, however, the Shelby Cobra remains a beloved roadster in part for its shiny aluminum bodywork and Ford V8. Further supporting the Shelby Cobra's legend, automotive concept artist Al Yasid shared his own take on the classic roadster in several renderings that manage to successfully blend its retro features with a modern exterior ahead of its time.

Looks Like A Million Dollar Shelby Cobra

Yasid's renders imagine the two-seater roadster bagged, low-riding, and finished in what looks like a Deep Blue Metallic wrap. He draws attention to what it’s wearing down low, with emphasis on its SK Forged wheels and attention-seeking fender flares that are so exaggerated, it's a wonder the wheels even fit underneath, let alone make rotations without rubbing. Then again, this Shelby Cobra operates in a fantasy world, which is exactly what makes it so darn appealing.

Down By The Docks

Helping Yasid to create the renderings were two software programs behind the scenes: Blender and Keyshot. According to Yasid's post, he used the former for modeling, while "everything else was in Keyshot." Dressing up the background for Yasid's chosen setting is a scene outside of a warehouse on the docks, which serves as another exercise in suspending disbelief considering there's nothing blue collar about this classic.

Most Closely Resembles The 1966 Super Snake

via Al Yasid

Ostensibly, from looks alone, Yasid's Shelby Cobra most resembles the 1966 Super Snake with its fully exposed grille opening, side exhaust, and hood scoop. Even the blue paint job is reminiscent, albeit in a moodier shade. Yasid's Shelby, however, sports a more conservatively-sized air dam compared to the Super Snake’s, which is more characteristic of the Slalom Snake. One Instagram commenter found it reminiscent of the 2006 Weineck Cobra, a 780 cui limited edition model from Germany.

If Yasid's latest work of art isn't enough to satisfy the Cobra fan in you, get ready for more to come—the automotive artist teased a possible new Cobra rendering in the works, having been snake-bitten as a result of his latest creation. Yasid regularly posts his automotive creations on his Instagram handle @yasiddesign.
