Lamborghini's replacement for the Aventador is coming in 2023. Rumors and speculation have been swirling for a while, but now, new spy footage reveals the exhaust note of a V12 and some other clever details hiding underneath the camouflage.

V12 Noise, Need We Say More?

Let’s just cut to the chase. A glorious V12 engine powers the prototype shown in Varryx’s YouTube footage. You can hear it at the very start of the video and that means Lamborghini isn’t ready to go all-electric just yet.

Through CEO Stephen Winkelmann, Lamborghini has confirmed that a V12 engine will indeed power the new car. However, some significant changes are coming for the powertrain.First, the V12 will be all-new and is only the third V12 engine in the company’s history. That big brute of a powerplant will team a plug-in hybrid system that uses a traditional electric motor and battery setup instead of a supercapacitor unit.

There is no news on how much horsepower the new powertrain unit will produce. Still, you can anticipate more than the outgoing Aventador, which leaves us with 780 horsepower in the Ultimae spec.

With more than a year to go before we get a glimpse of Lambo’s halo car, there is plenty of time to speculate over possible details. Following both industry and Lamborghini’s own trends, it’s safe to expect some specific features on the new car.

The most likely features include an advanced four-wheel-drive system that uses four-wheel steering. That should make the new car much more agile and aid overall performance both on the road and on the track.

Active aerodynamics will feature as well, with a moveable rear wing taking center stage along with clever nose and splitter configurations and a sophisticated rear diffuser. Lamborghini has done a lot in recent years to significantly increase the on-track performance of its cars, employing state-of-the-art aerodynamic principles. Expect the next generation of that technology to find its way onto the Aventador replacement.

Details Hint At The Overall Shape Of The New Car

It is always difficult to speculate on the final look of a new car when camouflaged. In the video, we can see the exhaust tips, wheels, and general wedge-shape of the design. This, of course, could be an Aventador test mule, fitted with the new powertrain, but given the amount of camouflage, it is probably safe to say that what’s underneath the covers is the actual car.

The shape follows the traditional Lamborghini design of having a continuous line from the front bumper to the top of the windshield. This defines the wedge-design look and has been a hallmark of Lamborghini’s ever since the Countach.

The rest of the details are a mystery, but we do not doubt that Lamborghini will deliver a stunning design and drool-worthy vehicle when it makes its official debut in 2023. Until then, we’ll have fun dreaming about how it might look.
