Within the ongoing muscle car wars that dominate Detroit headlines, none of the Big 3  ends up winning as much as the consumer. How else to explain absurd new cars like Ford's Mustang Shelby GT500, the most powerful Mustang ever? Nobody needs a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 producing 760 horsepower—and yet, anxious daydreamers will happily line up to get their hands on one. Now, Dodge has clapped back with the newest monstrous iteration of the Challenger, which is officially named the Super Stock but in a recent test video from the Canadian YouTube channel Throttle House earned the moniker "New Demon" in honor of Dodge's absurd and undisputed king of the modern muscle car wars.

Built To Burn Rubber

Where the Challenger Demon was built to dominate drag strips with up to 840 horsepower on tap (before actually being ruled illegal by the National Hot Rod Association because it had too much power and not enough safety equipment), the Super Stock follows in the same path with a supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat Hemi that produces 807 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque.

For reference, that's actually 10 horses more than the Challenger Redeye and only one single pony less than the Demon when not equipped with the Demon Crate package and filled up with 100-octane (or higher) race fuel. The difference comes courtesy of a revised redline that's been increased from 6,300 to 6,400 RPM.

Looking Good

The exterior wears the Challenger's widebody kit and comes equipped with 18-inch wheels to allow for taller tire sidewalls. The suspension has been tuned in a similar fashion to the Demon, with a priority placed on transferring power to the ground efficiently during hard launches, while other goodies include an engine cooling system that employs the cabin's air conditioning, plus a trick launch control function tuned to improve initial traction. The most critical detail about this new addition to Dodge's lineup is that the Super Stock isn't a limited-edition package and will be available for order straight from dealerships, so anyone thinking this could be the perfect muscle monster for them should definitely watch Throttle House hosts Thomas and James as they get up to absolutely no good in their latest clip.
