Car TV shows are big hits all over the world and are usually extremely successful, especially if they mainly focus on the restoration or customization of classic cars, motorcycles, or any other form of transportation. In fact, some of the shows are so popular that they often attract high-profile celebrities and Hollywood royalty.

Many of these programs display amazing craftwork with regards to restoring automobiles, with the majority of work being done at a seriously high caliber. For car lovers, watching a TV show about their favorite four-wheeled machines can be the next best thing to driving one. That's right, shows such as Counting Cars, Fast N' Loud, and American Chopper give car enthusiasts all over the world a chance to nerd out on their beloved pastime. Car-based reality TV shows have certainly come a long way, and are seemingly taking over the world. In fact, there are at least 20 automobile-themed TV shows on the television as we speak, with each one offering its fans something different.

However, although most of what they produce turns out wonderful and amazing, there are still a few restorations that have failed. From shoddy engineering to extreme laziness, some of the products end up worse than they were before they arrived. Thankfully, it is only a select amount, with the majority of vehicles becoming engineering marvels. So which ones rock and which ones belong in the trash? Here are 10 car TV shows that ruin cars and 10 that build the best.

20 Ruined: Pink G-Wagen (West Coast Customs)

The employees at West Coast Customs don't have a great track record when it comes to safety and are renowned for a number of dodgy issues with regards the cars. In fact, it seems the general public and celebrities alike can't escape the shoddy work, with internet celebrity Trish Paytas a great example. Paytas brought in a Mercedes-Benz G550, otherwise known as the G-Wagen, to West Coast Customs after Paytas wanted a touch-up. That's right, Payton had originally asked the team to paint the vehicle pink, as well as adding some Swarovski crystals to the headsets. You know, normal stuff. Sadly, the final product was a far cry from what she wanted and the car was deemed not road worthy.

19 Perfect: The Impression (Overhaulin')

There is no denying the talent of mechanical engineer Chip Foose. That's right, the famed car designer from popular car restoration TV show Overhaulin' recently blew the minds of many with his Impression concept. The car, which was one of the standout features of the show, is often referred to as Foose's best work. In fact, the car's design was originally constructed on the back of a napkin during a dinner with the motorcycle man, Ken Reister. Furthermore, Foose is extremely respected all over the world, with car enthusiast Jay Leno stating, "He's a real artist. When people see a statue they think of an artist, but when they see metal with wheels it doesn't register. But it's true art. When you're doing something of an automotive nature it has to perform and still retain the beauty of it. That's why Chip is really good."

18 Ruined: 1963 The Chrysler Imperial (Counting Cars)

If you like the classics, then the Chrysler Imperial is the car for you. Back in the day, the Imperial was a luxury automobile produced by legendary carmakers Chrysler between 1955 and 1975. However, the car later reappeared between 1981 and 1983. The car was noted for being extremely classy and was one of the more sophisticated vehicles on the market at the time. In Season 4 of Counting Cars, the crew managed to get their hands on an old 1963 banger that needed a lot of work. Not ones to turn anything down, the team managed to transform the wreck into a working vehicle, yet the class had most definitely left the building.

17 Perfect: 1959 Anglia Dragster (Counting Cars)

Cars can come in all shapes and sizes—some big, some small, some long, and some short. In 2015, the crew of Counting Cars decided to create one of the coolest cars in the world, and something that had never quite been seen before. The car in question was a 1959 Anglia Dragster, a car that puts the hot in hot rod. That's right, the final product was one of the slickest cars to have ever come out of the show, as well as one of the most luxurious. Not only did the Dragster have one of the coolest side exhausts on the planet, but it also had one of the shiniest engines known to man. And we didn't even mention the paint job.

16 Ruined: The NHL Chopper (American Chopper)

Sports and motorbikes don't mix but for some reason, the boys at Orange County Choppers thought otherwise. That's right, in one episode of American Chopper, the team decided to incorporate their love of sports with their love of bikes. The final product ended with a combination of the National Hockey League (NHL) and choppers. Sadly, the combo failed and the bike looked over-the-top and tacky instead. In fact, the bike was probably one of the worst in the series and also instigated one of the biggest rows on the show too, with the argument even turning into a meme.

15 Perfect:  1976 Chevy C-10 (Fast N' Loud)

Everybody loves a pickup truck, especially if you're from the USA. That's right, pickups are the holy grail of US life and are often considered to be the one that thing that can make you truly a patriot. The team at Fast N' Loud seemingly in agreeance when taking on the job of rebuilding one. However, the car in question was a 1976 Chevy C-10, and a pickup that needed a lot of work. Unfazed, the crew went on to create one of the most standout rebuilds on the show, with the pickup displaying an incredible restoration. In fact, not only did it perform better but it also looked better, too, with the two-tone paint scheme certainly one of a kind.

14 Ruined: Pink Mini Cooper (West Coast Customs)

Sadly, the Mini Cooper gets a bad reputation and is often labeled as one of the most ridiculous cars in history. West Coast Customs only added to the ridicule when they took on one of the tackiest jobs of the series. The car, which was customized for West Coast Customs star Ryan Friedlinghaus' wife, was covered in diamonds and a variety of other sparkly objects. When asked why he had done such a thing, Friedlinghaus replied that he had wanted his wife's car to stand out. Friedlinghaus was lucky because the car most certainly stood out, especially with around 80,000 crystals stuck to the roof.

13 Perfect:  1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible (Counting Cars)

The guys on Counting Cars are exceptional car designers and have displayed some incredible work over the last few years. The Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible has often been considered to be one of the best and has become a firm favorite among car enthusiasts. The car featured in the fourth season, when the team was approached by the owner of the car. It was then discovered that the car was originally released in 1972 and was one of just a select few in the world. Excited, the team jumped at the chance to restore the old vehicle and ended up creating one of the best custom-made automobiles on television.

In 2012, a certain vibrantly-colored businessman (and now one of the most famous and powerful men in the world) appeared on the motorcycle series, American Chopper: Senior vs Junior. As you would expect, the Donald asked for something ridiculous, tacky, and over the top, with the final product exactly that. American Chopper stars Paul Senior and Paul Junior delivered the most outrageous bike ever made, much to the delight of the Donald. That's right, the bike was one of the worst bikes in the history of the series with the chopper displaying large gold handlebars, gold wheels, and a large "T" on the pedal, just in case anybody forgot who the bike belonged to.

11 Perfect:  Kid Rock's Caddy (West Coast Customs)

Kid Rock, real name Robert James Ritchie, is a singer-songwriter with a career spanning over 20 years. The singer is known for venturing into a number of genres and has sampled genres including rap, hip-hop, rock, and even country. Rock is also a renowned car lover and was featured in an episode of the restoration show, West Coast Customs. The episode featured Rock and his old-school 1975 Cadillac, which received a glorious makeover by the team. Not only did the car undergo a sweet new paint job but it also obtained black velour seats, a new stereo system, and slick gold trim.

Car shows sure love a celebrity, with West Coast Customs renowned for their obsession with fixing up celebrity vehicles. In one episode, well-known celebrity socialite Paris Hilton brought in her Bentley Continental GT Coupe. The team decided to go all out and ended up committing one of the worst crimes ever committed against a car. Yes, the Bentley Continental GT was turned into a child's play toy and was covered head to toe in Pink. Hilton loved it so much that she later stated, "I love pink so I met up with Ryan and brought him this pink clock from the Disney store and got him to make this exact color and we just designed it all together."

9 Perfect: 1959 Ford F-100 (Fast N' Loud)

Fast N' Loud have done some incredible builds over the years, with the 1959 Ford F-100 no different. That's right, the team turned this aging Ford pickup into a slick new vehicle with an even slicker paint job. So what was it all in aid of? The client was Shiner Bock Beer, one of the best beers in Texas and one that is extremely popular with locals. Therefore, the pressure was on for the team on Fast N' Loud, who had to transform the battered old truck into a brand new beer-tugger. The results were fantastic, with Shiner paying a whopping $150,000 for the vehicle.

8 Ruined: Statue Of Liberty Bike (American Chopper)

American Chopper's choppers are often hit and miss, and can either offer something amazing or something not that great. For instance, the Statue of Liberty bike was one of the worst, and completely missed the mark with regards to design and presentation. That's right, the bike was a complete embarrassment, with its copper appearance somewhat of a joke. So where did it even come from? The bike was commisioned by the Gold Leaf cooperation who wanted to celebrate the famed statue's 125th birthday. Sadly, the present was rather lackluster and didn't really take off as one would hope. Just get her something else next time.

7 Perfect: 1978 Chevrolet El Camino (Counting Cars)

The Chevrolet El Camino is a cute little car-truck that was originally produced by Chevrolet between 1959 and 1960, and then again between 1964 and 1987. In one episode of Counting Cars, the team managed to get hold of a 1978 El Camino which they eagerly set to work on. The result was amazing, with the car given a brand new, eye-catching paint job that had car enthusiasts foaming at the mouths. That's right, the crew wanted to create a design that would shock car fans all over the world, especially El Camino fans. Thankfully, they did just that, with the car one of the standouts of the series.

6 Ruined: 1971 Dodge Challenger (Overhaulin')

Overhaulin' is a reality TV series that ran from 2004 to 2008. The majority of cars were worked on by legendary car engineer, Chip Foose. Foose was an incredible mechanic and would, more often than not, display some exceptional work. However, like most geniuses, they don't always get it right, with this Dodge Challenger a major example of that fact. Firstly, the car was already in bad shape when Foose got his hands on it, yet the stubborn nature of his personality persuaded him to continue. Secondly, the overall product was most definitely a letdown, with the build-up sadly much bigger than the actual bite.

5 Perfect: 1965 Ford Mustang (Overhaulin')

Everybody loves a Ford Mustang. I mean, what's not to love? The car, which was originally introduced back in 1964, is one of the most iconic cars around and is loved all over the world. Furthermore, it's actually quite good, and regularly wins a number of awards for each generation. Therefore, it comes as no surprise to see mechanical genius Chip Foose try his hand at designing one, with the custom-made 1965 Mustang displayed on an episode of Overhaulin'. The final product was better than anyone could have predicted, with the car just as magical as it was back in 1965.

From custom-made vintage classics to brand new motors with up to date technology, the wonderful world of car customization is exhilarating. However, sometimes things are taken a little too far, with Monster Garage certainly portrayed as such. That's right, in one episode, the team created the Panoz Esperante redone as a flying car, which was basically an Esperante with wings attached. Sadly, although it might sound rather cool, the car is actually a waste of material, and to add insult to injury, it doesn't even fly! Whatever the case, fans seem to love it, with the car adored all over the world.

3 Perfect: Karmann Ghia (Counting Cars)

The Karmann Ghia is often considered to be a hidden gem and is not so well known around the world. The car, which was built by Volkswagen between 1955 and 1976, wowed audiences upon its release. These days, the car is most definitely a classic, with only a select few hanging around. However, in one episode of Counting Cars, the team somehow managed to get their hands on a 1962 model, which they turned into one of the best things to have ever come out of the garage. Thankfully, the car hadn't changed much with regards to appearance and stayed just as slick as it was over 50 years ago.

The Bebop motorcycle has often been recognized for being one of the ugliest things to have come out of American Choppers. That's right, the Chopper is hardly a looker, with its sharp and edgy design clashing with a number of other strange and somewhat interesting styles upon it. In fact, fans regularly criticize the design from the spikes that cover the bike and the bizarre exhaust under the tank. However, although people might hate it, the bike is one of the most talked-about bikes of the show and generates conversation all over the world. Can't all be bad, right?

1 Perfect: Terracuda (Overhaulin')

Overhaulin' top designer, Chip Foose, certainly knows what he's doing when it comes to restoring cars and is regularly labeled as one of the best. For instance, the Terracuda is one of the best cars to have ever come out of a car restoration show, never mind just Overhaulin'. That's right, the car, which was originally a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, was built for an avid car collector who requested something extremely special. The car is an engineering marvel with a classy paint job to go with it. Furthermore, the two front wheels were slightly moved forward to stretch the wheelbase and make it look more sophisticated. It worked.
