The secret to the success of the GR Yaris is the fact that it is essentially a rally car for the streets. But Toyota is not finished with the GR Yaris, as the carmaker’s Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) arm recently unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022 a more hardcore version – the new GRMN Yaris.

The GRMN Yaris is a fully tuned version of the GR Yaris featuring various motorsport-developed technology and parts. For instance, the GRMN Yaris is around 44 pounds lighter than the GR Yaris, thanks to the use of twill weave CFRP (hood, roof, and rear spoiler) and the deletion of rear seats. The GRMN Yaris is also 10-mm wider and 10-mm lower than the GR Yaris.

For a more direct response to driver's input, Toyota enhanced the car’s body rigidity by increasing the number of spots to 545 and applying 12-meter longer structural adhesive. Moreover, the car features a mechanical LSD, a close-ratio gear transmission and a low final gear set. Toyota employed SNCM material and added shot processing to the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and final gears to improve shock torque and fatigue strength, making the car more reliable during endurance races.

TGR will offer two services that will allow the GRMN Yaris to evolve quickly and cater to individuals. The Update Program will evolve the hot hatch via additional parts and software updates, all refined in the field of motorsports. The Personalization Program, meanwhile, will tailor the car according to the driver’s data.

TGR will also offer two upgrade packages for the GRMN Yaris. The 50-unit factory-installed Circuit Package focuses on road performance and features a special Matte Steel exterior color. The dealer-installed Rally Package, meanwhile, focuses on driving performance on all road surfaces.

Aside from the GRMN Yaris, Toyota also unveiled the GR GT3 Concept at the TAS 2022. The concept represents Toyota’s commitment to further accelerating customer motorsport activities, promoting "driver first" car development, and provide attractive GT3 cars. Like the GR Yaris, the GR GT3 Concept is a vehicle bred from motorsports, not a production car adapted for races.
