Toyota Gazoo Racing has stated it will make additional spare parts, 56 items in all, for six models, in addition to the 33 spare parts it launched and sold in 2020 and 2021. The idea is to give people who own Toyota classics and JDMs a chance at renovating their cars with genuine Toyota spare parts, instead of relying on the aftermarket for the same.

The parts will go into Toyota’s existing catalog of replacement parts in February, and be available for purchase at Toyota dealerships like before.

The one car to truly benefit from this is the Land Cruiser FJ40 and there will be a total of 33 replacement parts made for it, including the brake master cylinder and steering relay rod.

The A70 Supra gets a total of 11 items, including the catalyst and the parking brake cable while the legendary A80 Supra gets a total of three parts, including the key cylinder as well as the ignition/door lock key.

The Toyota 2000GT will also get seven parts, two of them being the clutch disk and the flexible brake hose.

The last model that is getting new replacement parts is the AE86 Corolla, for both the Levin and the Sprinter Trueno trims, and will get three parts in total; two of them being the differential gear kit (ratio 4:3) and the transmission input shaft.

The replacement parts made by Toyota Gazoo Racing are a way to honor the old-school race car that made GR what it is today. Plus, under the GR Heritage Parts initiative, it’s a way to help out all loyal Toyota customers who still have their classics with them, and just need a part or two to get them back on the rack. The website stated, “GR Heritage Parts was set up to reproduce and resell spare parts for old school Toyota sports cars, ensuring that they can race on for many years to come.”

The term Gazoo Racing also comes with an interesting backstory. In 2007, Hiromu Naruse and a team of test drivers participated in the 24 Hours Nürburgring race. Since this was not the official “Works Toyota Racing” team, they needed another name. Incidentally, the VP of Toyota, Akio Toyoda was also one of the test drivers of the team, and it was ultimately called Team Gazoo. They drove Altezzas and BMW E90s at the time considering it was an amateur race project.

Team Gazoo may not have won that race, but Gazoo Racing became Toyota’s high performance/racing division since giving rise to the GR Yaris, GR 86, and the GR Supra, plus the much-awaited GR Corolla.
