The B Is For Build YouTube channel has a new video out, promising to find out once and for all if the Mk4 twin turbo Toyota Supra in stock form is actually a fast car. For research purposes, our host is putting it on a dyno against some of his stock cars, which include a Lamborghini Huracan and a Ford Mustang.

A Fun Day At The High Horsepower Garage

Before the dyno tests can begin, there are a few things that need doing on the Supra as the car has some bad fuel. Instead of draining the tank originally and adding fuel, they simply add more gas. Unfortunately, that's not a great idea and the car runs a little rough, so they decide to remove all the gas and start fresh.

On the front end of the car, we can see the car has no body cladding. Our host continues by telling us he's received his front fenders, headlights, hood, and bumper and test fits everything before getting it on the dyno. He jokes to himself that if the car “thinks and feels better, it will perform better… Like getting a new suit, right?” At 4:56 in the video, we see the car with the body panels back on, and it looks stunning.

What To Dyno?

The boys look around the shop, wondering what to dyno first. While pointing to his Skyline GTR, our host tells us that his dyno is a rear-wheel-only dyno, so options are therefore limited. He tells us some of his other cars, such as his Lamborghini Huracan is just two horsepower shy of 1,000 hp, and half-jokingly his DMC DeLorean is just two horsepower shy of 100 hp. Finally, they decide on the classic Mustang, which is “stock-ish”.

Not at all stock, the Mustang boasts a rear mounted LS3 crate engine that produces 430 hp to the crank. Unfortunately, the Mustang doesn't perform well, and we can clearly hear that the engine is struggling up at the higher RPMs. The boys decide to call it quits after reaching only 180 hp at 4,000 RPM before causing any damage to the engine.

The More Reliable Trio In The Garage

With the disappointment from the Mustang still fresh, the boys decide to test their most reliable car, which is their Mercedes racecar. The car has done 600 laps without breaking down and should easily handle the dyno. It completes the run at 162 hp at 5,000 RPM at the wheels, which is still far off from the 215 hp at the crank that the car should have. This, of course, is not taking into account age and abuse.

The Huracan is next and manages a pull of 509.1 hp at 8,152 RPM, which is incredibly close to the 515 hp the car had when new.

Once the Supra is set into place, we hear our host rev up his engine. In no time, the numbers are in, and the car puts out 236 hp at 5,937 RPM. We're told that the car should have around 275 hp in stock form, and something small such as a broken or clogged vacuum line may have hindered this test. Either way, this still proves that the Supra is a great base for a high-horsepower build.
