The prospect of a redesigned 2024 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck is incredibly exciting. More exciting with the potential of the pure electric version of the 2024 Tacoma. Few details currently exist of the 2024 Tacoma EV. Although Toyota did share some images of the upcoming electric pickup truck with the debut of a concept in 2022. That has given us a tantalizing glimpse into the future of the truck. A truck that has us very excited, given the potential that exists within it.

Toyota is of course known for producing rugged, reliable and dependable vehicles. There is no reason that the electric Tacoma should be any different. While we can only go by the little information we know so far, we are incredibly excited about the potential for this truck. One that will take on the Ford F-150 Lightning and electric Chevrolet Silverado, but being a smaller truck, the price point would be worth paying attention to.

In the electric pickup world, two of the biggest players are Ford and Chevrolet. Ford of course has the F-150 Lightning, while Chevrolet has the Silverado EV as its new electric truck. Toyota is yet to join them, but as one of the biggest manufacturers in North America it was only a matter of time before it did.

The F-150 Lightning offers up to 320 miles of range while the Silverado EV can offer at least 400 miles. So those are big numbers for the Tacoma EV to compete with. This is before we factor in the Rivian R1T, one of the most impressive trucks out there with a potential 400-mile range too. Toyota may get the jump on some of its rivals price wise, however. The F-150 Lightning starts at a respectable $40,000 but the R1T comes in at $74,800 as a starting point. Chevrolet launched higher end versions of the Silverado EV first and they started at $74,800. The Tacoma is a mid-size truck, so the Tacoma EV will be smaller than the Ford and Chevrolet. This would further play in Toyota's favor allowing it to be priced around or below the Ford.

Toyota Pickups Always Prove Rugged And Reliable

Something that is possibly almost guaranteed is the reliability and ruggedness of the Tacoma EV. Toyota has built up a very good reputation for reliable and rugged trucks. Reviews such as our own have praised the Tacoma for its value and reliability, while the addition of a manual transmission actually makes it a lot of fun. With smooth suspension on and off-road, the Tacoma also provides a comfortable driving experience.

The only real criticism levered at the current Tacoma is that its infotainment system feels a bit outdated. The new EV version should fix that, and provide a big change to the exterior design too. If the looks are anything to go by from the concept, it should be a much fresher looking truck too. Perhaps Toyota’s most famous pickup is the ever reliable Hilux. A truck that is another hugely dependable and rugged one. So the new Tacoma EV will certainly have the pedigree of a long range of rugged and reliable trucks.

A New Tacoma EV Will Refresh The Truck's Styling

While looks are more of a subjective matter, the reality is that the Tacoma in its current guise has gone a bit stale looks wise. Toyota has refreshed it once or twice, but it's probably time for a full overhaul. The concept Toyota showed off at its recent event however gave us a good idea as to what we can expect. It offered a very clean looking front fascia, with no grille but the same rugged look any Toyota SUV or pickup truck has. There is just a small air dam below the fascia for cooling for its electric drivetrain.

The fender, quarter panels and side panels have been redesigned over the current Tacoma as well. So it is fair to say that Toyota will produce a winner looks wise, should the real thing look like the concept. Toyota rarely strays too far away from their concepts, so this would be a very good-looking electric pickup.

A big, bulky electric pickup truck has been eagerly awaited from Toyota for a while. That hype has only increased since the revealing of the concept. Details are still somewhat sketchy regarding the truck but as 2023 goes on we would expect more and more to become available. As one of the most prominent automotive manufacturers in North America, it's only right that Toyota brings an electric pickup into its range. No doubt Ford, Chevrolet and perhaps Rivian too will face some stiff competition from the 2024 Tacoma EV when it is finally unleashed by Toyota.
