When Ford unveiled the newest generation of the GT to orders, the world's wealthiest and most famous gearheads lined up to drop around a half-million bucks on the carbon-fiber supercar. And Ford did a great job keeping the GT exclusive, even stipulating in sales paperwork that new owners couldn't flip their cars for a profit—famously, John Cena did just that and earned himself a lawsuit from Ford. But after two years, owners are free to do what they please with their GTs, so it's no surprise that some have babied their cars hoping to make a huge profit when they are finally allowed to sell. Case in point now comes in the form of a new listing by Mecum Auctions at the Kissimmee Summer Special 2020 event slated for the last weekend of August, a 2018 Ford GT with only 97 miles on the clock.

Looking Brand New

Mecum's listing makes it 100% clear that "the two-year resale restriction period for this Ford GT has expired." That means potential bidders will surely line up to spend what will likely be in excess of seven figures to get their hands on this example of the new GT, which benefits from a Frozen White exterior paint scheme with the $15,000 carbon-fiber exterior package and the $30,000 Dark Energy color scheme on the interior. Other touches include 20-inch exposed carbon wheels—another $15,000 on the car when it was first sold new.

Serious Performance

Mounted behind the passenger compartment is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that produces 647 horsepower—though this example may be doing a bit more thanks to the $10,000 titanium Akrapovic exhaust upgrade. In factory spec, the GT was capable of running a 0-60 sprint in three seconds on the way to a top speed of 216 miles per hour. All that remains to be seen is how quickly bidding will sprint to the million-dollar mark when this car hits the block.
