The automotive industry is changing, and fast. With global heavyweight Volkswagen leading the charge to decommission the internal combustion engine having announced "the year 2026 will be the last product start on a combustion engine platform", the race is well and truly on to build the best, smartest and longest range EVs.

Some of the cars in the project seriously highlight how the pace of development of EVs is picking up and developing at warp speed. One looks back to the early EVs of just less than 10 years ago and one can't help but be dizzied by the sheer rate of change.

Now not only are EVs rivaling combustion engine cars in some areas they are exceeding them in others. EVs will soon be boasting the fastest 0-60 mph acceleration of any vehicle on the market. Innovation is accelerating at a pace, research and development are pouring in and factories the world over are retooling.

Here are 10 upcoming EVs that will put any lingering apprehensions you may have about the viability of EVs to rest.

10 Tesla Model S Long Range

The Model S Long Range is living proof of how far EVs have come and just how they can truly take on traditional combustion vehicles toe to toe. With Tesla's super quick charging you can easily drive across the 48 States stopping for a leisurely coffee only every few hundred miles.
