One of the most famous car brands on Earth, Porsches have for decades symbolized the cutting edge of automotive performance. Buying a Porsche gives owners access to an exclusive club, one that many of the wealthiest and most influential people in the world are part of. But, buying one of these prestigious machines doesn't have to cost a fortune.

With the brand now shifting more cars than ever, it's a great time to buy a used Porsche. Buying second-hand often means getting a huge discount off the MSRP, but still having a luxurious performance car that's as comfortable as it is fast. Even those with families to drive around needn't worry, as there's a range of larger Porsches for every taste. Track-focused or family-focused, there are bargains to be had on so much of the brand's range.

10 Panamera

Some might consider the Panamera the ugly duckling of Porsche's lineup, but for those who don't mind its looks, it offers brilliant value for money. The cheapest used examples can be found for over 70% off their retail price, and they're only just over ten years old.

It might have four doors and a spacious trunk, but everything else about the car is traditional Porsche, especially with the gasoline V8. They're deceptively fast and very comfortable for long-distance, making them one of the best-used Porsches on the market right now.

9 911 (996)

Out of all the generations of Porsche 911, the 996 is one of the least appreciated. That's partly due to the move to a water-cooled engine from air-cooled, and its all-new chassis which was a radical departure from the previous generation.

It means that 996s are the cheapest 911s to buy, although many experts are predicting their value will rise soon as collectors grow to appreciate the model. Whether that's true only time will tell, but either way the car represents a great affordable entry into 911 ownership.

8 Boxster

Porsche's small open-top sports car has never got much love, with many dismissing it in favor of the ever-popular 911. That's a shame as the Boxster is good in its own right, a genuine competitor to the likes of the BMW Z4 and Audi TT.

It's far from the fastest Porsche, although a first-gen Boxster S can still sprint to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. They're also among the cheapest Porsches on the market, commonly found for under $10,000.

7 Cayenne

The original Porsche SUV disgusted some purists when it launched, but in the twenty-plus years since the car has proved itself a worthy addition to the brand's lineup. The current market infatuation with SUVs also means that Cayennes very rapidly depreciate, which is great news for the used buyer.

A top-spec Cayenne is a seriously powerful beast, and it's big enough to haul a family too. Inside, the car is about as luxurious as a Porsche gets, so expect plenty of fine leather and real wood trim in most versions.

6 911 (997)

Although they aren't as cheap as a 996 and not as modern as a 991, the 997 era of Porsche provides a great middle-ground for buying used. It's also quite common to find higher mileage examples on the market, a testament to the 997's solid reliability for a sports car.

One issue to watch out for when buying a used example is the clutch slipping. The clutch on this model usually lasts around 50,000 miles, so if it feels worn with lower mileage it probably means the car has been driven too hard with a previous owner. Other than that, the car is generally a solid option for a used flagship Porsche.

5 944

Used 944s are among the cheapest Porsches on the market and by far the cheapest classic model. They're also one of the best-selling, with over 163,000 cars sold. That made it the best-selling Porsche ever up until the introduction of the Boxster.

Their popularity means it's very easy to find one for a rock bottom price, and maintenance is pretty straightforward as well. The car's range of inline-4 engines means it won't be the quickest classic Porsche around, but it's definitely the best value for money.

4 718 Cayman

The hard-top 718 might not have the same star appeal as some of the brand's other cars, but it's a very capable machine that's too often overlooked. The baby Porsche has been sold in its current form since 2016, although older-gen Caymans will be even cheaper.

It's a brilliant track car but retains enough sensibilities to be driven every day. Those with more cash to splash should opt for a GT4 spec, as the car is made even faster, to the point where it will happily take on supercars that retail for double the price.

3 928

Built as a luxury grand tourer, the Porsche 928 makes for a great alternative to a classic 911. The value of older 911s has skyrocketed in recent years, but 928s have remained very affordable, even for lower mileage models.

It was the first Porsche powered by a V8 engine and sported a more luxurious interior than Porsche's other products from the era. It was built from 1978 right up to 1995, and during that time around 61,000 units were sold. That means buyers shouldn't find it too difficult to find an example in good condition.

2 Macan

If a Cayenne seems a little oversized and bulky, a used Macan might strike just the right balance. It's Porsche's smaller SUV offering, although it still keeps the same level of luxury available in its bigger brother.

Like most SUVs, Macans are subject to steep depreciation and so examples just a few years old can be bought for huge discounts off MSRP. They're big enough to haul a small family, and they're arguably the better looking of the two Porsche SUVs as well.

1 911 (991)

The second-newest generation of 911 does hold its value well, but there are still many examples out there for around half of their retail price. It's still a very modern design, so most casual observers will probably have no idea that it isn't a brand new Porsche.

In terms of driving experience, it's a highly impressive car, but Porsche focused on improving everyday usability too. That means a surprising amount of luggage room, fully adjustable suspension for optimum comfort, and the full suite of Porsche's infotainment setup.
