When Lamborghini decided to forego the use of a V10 or V12 engine in the Urus SUV, the move signaled that the famous powerplants truly are on the way out. But despite the low-end torque advantages of twin-turbo V6 and V8 setups, sports car enthusiasts will still love bigger naturally aspirated engines, largely because of the awesome noises they make. Case in point now comes from the YouTube channel Lovecars, which has pitted a Lexus LFA and an Audi R8 V10 Spyder against each other in a potent supercar drag race that requires great speakers or high-end headphones to truly enjoy to the fullest.

Turn Up The Sound

Both the LFA and the R8 will go down in history as two of the latest V10-powered sports cars, even though the LFA was only produced in 2011 and 2012. The R8, meanwhile, shares its engine with Lamborghini's Gallardo and Huracan supercars, the latter of which appears to be joining the Aventador for a few last gasps in the form of special-edition variants like the Huracan Evo RWD.

The LFA was essentially a concept car for Toyota to set a new direction for Lexus, which has resulted in current models such as the LC500 and RC F. But the LFA is, without a doubt, on another level, largely because it employs a 4.8-liter V10 (the LC500 sports a V8 and can also be had in hybrid form) producing 560 horsepower and can rev to a screaming 9,500 RPM fuel cutoff.

The Lexus LFA is rather heavy, tipping the scales at well over 3,000 pounds but Audi's R8 V10 Spyder also brings some weight at just shy of 4,000 pounds largely thanks to Quattro all-wheel-drive, which should come in handy during a launch off the line. The R8's engine, meanwhile, produces a claimed 620 horses and 427 lb-ft of torque. Watch (and listen!) to the clip to see whether the Lexus halo car can overcome its power disadvantage and take the R8 to task.
