The first electric supercar from Southeast Asia, the Vega EVX, will soon be heading to the 2020 Geneva Motor Show next month. Its maker, Vega Innovations, promised a supercar that is full of innovations. As a partial fulfillment of this, Vega has partnered with Spark Connected to offer a wireless charging solution inside the cabin of the new EVX.

Based in Dallas, Texas, Spark Connected specializes in wireless power technologies with applications in the various fields and markets including automotive, industrial and infrastructure, as well as medical, robotics and security. For the automotive industry, it offers an in-cabin solution called “The Beast.”

As part of its partnership with Vega Innovations, Spark Connected is integrating an in-cabin wireless charging technology (based on The Beast) into the Vega EVX. With this technology, compatible smartphones can be charged sans a wired port. This in-cabin wireless charging technology supports all fast charge smartphones with input supply ranging from 6V to 19V.

An 802-HP Electric Supercar

Once integrated into the Vega EVX, this wireless charging technology should partly fulfill the supercar’s promise of a luxury EV supercar with enhanced in-cabin experience. But of course, performance is a priority since EVX is, after all, a supercar.

Making it possible for the Vega EVX are two electric motors (front and rear). Previously, Vega said its electric powertrain delivers only 402 of max output, which isn't enough to catapult the EVX into the world of supercars. But it turns out that 402 hp is generated by each of the motors – total output is really 804 hp with a torque figure of 560 lb.-ft.

Superb Battery Performance

Weighing just 4,608 lbs, the Vega EVX comes with a 55-kWh NMC (lithium-manganese-cobalt-oxide) battery pack for an all-electric range of 186 miles. According to Vega innovations, its supercar can sprint from nil to 62 mph in 3.1 seconds.

Interestingly, Vega may implement a 130-kW NCA (lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxide) battery pack for the EVX starting 2021. This would more than double the supercar’s range to 466 miles! A corresponding surge in performance is expected. But since NCA batteries are known to be expensive, it may affect the price of the EVX.

Technology Without Borders

The Vega EVX supercar is pretty impressive considering that it comes from Sri Lanka, a country without any global or major carmaker on the map. But technology knows no boundaries, particularly in Geneva!
