Watch John Hennessey himself perform a walk-around of his supercharged V8 VelociRaptor.
We recently saw Post Malone take delivery of his VelociRaptor 6x6, which is certainly a beast of a truck. But you don’t need an entirely new axle to have an incredible Raptor upgrade. Hennessey makes a V8-powered Raptor that produces an awesome amount of horsepower for a very reasonable price.
Mr. Hennessey performs a walkaround video in the latest addition to his YouTube channel which showcases the V8 VelociRaptor many features, chief among them the incredible noise that a 2.9-L supercharger adds to a 5.0-L Coyote V8 engine. That engine produces 758 horsepower at the crank, which is quite the improvement on the original Raptor’s 450 horsepower from its 3.5-L twin-turbo V6.
With that much power, the VelociRaptor can go from zero to sixty in just 4.1 seconds. Quarter-mile time is measured at just 12.2 seconds at 115 mph. Those are numbers you just don’t see on a pickup truck.
The VelociRaptor uses Ford’s stock ECU and wiring harness, with Hennessey revealing that the original 10-speed Raptor transmission is swapped for the 10-speed transmission from a regular Ford F-150. We’re not sure why, as the Raptor’s power exceeds that of anything a regular F-150 can produce, but we’re sure they have their reasons.
Other upgrades include a new intercooler, new stainless steel cat-back exhaust, new custom VelociRaptor front and rear bumpers, new LED lights, and a set of Hennessey 20-inch rims. A 6-inch lift combines with 37-inch BF Goodrich off-road tires to make this pickup a much higher ride than a standard Raptor.
Hennessey also revealed that there are currently 20 orders for the VelociRaptor V8, which means if you ordered one today you wouldn’t take delivery until May. It also doesn’t come cheap: a fully-loaded VelociRaptor can cost upwards of $150,000 including the cost of a 2019 Ford Raptor.
That’s G-Wagen cost. But as Hennessey says, the VelociRaptor is a heckuva lot cooler than a G-Wagen.
