The teasers before the official reveal got us all incredibly excited. And then the official debut happened, and we got even more excited! The Nissan Z Proto is the latest modern derivative of the original Datsun Fairlady sports cars, cars that have become some of the most revered in the company's history. It may not yet be ready to hit production lines, but there is already a lot of excitement surrounding the car and we are certainly excited here at HotCars to see what this car can do.

The Z Proto's Design Process

Nissan has shared with us all the design process behind their new car. And to that end, they have uploaded a video on their own official YouTube channel. Much like what Honda recently produced for their new 2022 Honda Civic, Nissan charts the design process and thinking behind one of the company's most exciting vehicles of perhaps the last decade. So, how does Nissan describe the car themselves?

The project's main designers were Satoru Tai and Alfonso Albaisa. Nissan itself says of the Z Proto that it has “Pure sports car proportions. The long hood, short rear deck, and wheels pushed out to the corners. The Nissan Z Proto stays true to its DNA while adding a modern twist to its iconic styling cues.” In short, it has the DNA of the Fairlady’s well and truly embedded into it.

Finds Inspiration From The Original Fairlady

Tai was not sure what elements to take from the earlier cars and incorporate into the latest example of the Fairlady range. So they went right back to the original Fairlady 240Z for inspiration. For example, there is a grille on the 240Z. People say it has a square grille, but that is a result of the hood and fender creating a square hole. And this is incorporated into the Z Proto, and with a modern element of styling and proportion incorporated. We are incredibly excited about this car, and it shows a lot of promise.
