Millennials will surely remember Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Machine, while the Woodstock generation is probably nostalgic for the Volkswagen Type 2 Microbus. Whatever images and feelings this iconic microbus evokes, most of us will be delighted to discover that Volkswagen has reimagined one of their most memorable models and created a microbus that most definitely will become the token of a new generation.

With that being said, the two-tone painted Volkswagen ID.Buzz has a retro look inspired by the Type 2 Microbus and a design that will appeal to Generation Z. Meanwhile, the all-electric powertrain with a fully automated driving mode shows that the German auto manufacturer understands demand patterns and is well-prepared to help decarbonize the planet.

As for the interior of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz, the Germans have done a fantastic job. It is safe to say that it doesn't get much better than this. From the unique features, such as a built-in bottle opener and ice scraper, to the incredibly cute design elements, everything about the ID.Buzz is appealing. And counter to a global trend of creating rather boring-looking cars, Volkswagen has built a quirky, exciting vehicle.

The orange and white color scheme selected for the interior expresses happiness galore! Not for nothing, people associate orange with joy and sunshine, while white is the color of innocence. Volkswagen did a fantastic job with the hues here. The interior transmits the meaning of happiness and innocence. In fact, just by stepping into this van, you already feel younger, happier, and more carefree.

We Love The Easter Eggs In The Interior Of The VW ID Buzz

On the other hand, a Volkswagen marketing guru probably created those adorable Easter eggs because only Taylor Swift teases her fanbase so brilliantly with little details that keep her music lovers guessing. For instance, Car and Driver highlights the van silhouette carved in the plastic found on the side of the rear seat housing. Another cute van is carved into a yellow plastic piece, while a quirky smiley face is on the inside of the door handle. Autoevolution found the same silhouette printed on the rear glass.

On the more serious side, the “ID.” logo is nicely embroidered on the front seats. Here, we love the contrast between the creamy fonts in the logo and the orange upholstery. These are minor details that make all the difference.

To further illustrate Volkswagen’s commitment to eco-consumerism, the German automobile brand made the upholstery of vegan leather, while they manufactured the floor and seat coverings from recycled fabrics. Let’s not forget that in 2019, Marc Lichte, Head of Audi Design, touted “vegan leather” as a unique selling point for customers. According to ABC News, Lichte’s teen daughters told him, “I don’t want to sit on a dead cow.

Naturally, Volkswagen brought the eco-conscious trend even to its fleet.

Another millennial and Gen. Z approved detail is the interactive “ID. Light,” which extends across the windshield in front of the driver above the instrument panel, and presents information based on the color and position of the light signal. For example, when ‘ID. Light’ has a red color, the driver knows his van signals danger and the need to brake. The ID. Buzz also comes with 10-color ambient lighting for the standard package and 30 hues for optional.

The European version of ID Buzz comes with an entry-level interior trim called “Soul” that works with all exterior colors. Meanwhile, the “Mistral” interior trim options are available for the five-seater. “Candy White” is used on the instrument panel, the door trim accents, the seats’ outer panels and backs of the seats, and optionally, the steering wheel. The stronger colors, ‘X-Blue’, ‘Orange’, ‘Yellow’, and ‘Green’ decorate the dashboard and upper section of the door inserts and the inner seat panels.

As for infotainments and gadgets, the ID Buzz comes equipped with USB-C charging ports, a tray for wireless charging, a dual-zone climate control, and a 10-inch infotainment system with a 10-inch display, but customers can upgrade the display to a 12-inch unit.

Volkswagen ID Buzz’ eccentric design maximizes space wonderfully, creating the illusion of endless room. The front seats in the passenger ID Buzz have adjustable armrests, while the cargo model has only the armrest on the door cards. It is worth noting that the higher trims also come with adjustable massage seats with electric controls. We discover an even more interesting design element in the back of the front seats, where passengers can find fold-down tables.

Space-wise, this adorable microbus has the ideal measurements. As such, 137.7 cu ft of cargo space provides enough room for tailgating, outdoor and camping adventures, transporting groceries and even moving around furniture pieces.
