The new Supra has only been around for one model year, and yet already news has leaked that Toyota's team-up with BMW will receive numerous changes for 2021. Exactly how Toyota thought that partnering with the world's foremost extant inline-six builder would help vault the new Supra into the same arena as the fourth-gen, with its legendary 2JZ-GTE engine, remains something of a mystery, especially given the model's already murky future. But anyone who loves big, beefy inline-sixes can chuckle at this more classic combination, a BMW E30 that's received a 2JZ swap and complementary mods that allow it to lap the Nurburgring in a screaming 7 minutes and 26 seconds.

Strap In, Hold On

In a series of YouTube clips and plenty of Facebook posts, this E30 from Buldre Racingteam in Germany proves its mettle in every kind of condition, from racing on iced-over lakes to blasting up hillclimbs. Now, the latest video from driver Vidar Jødahl shows how impressively a 1,305-horsepower drivetrain inside one of BMW's most legendary chassis can dominate the infamous Green Hell. Based on the E30 M3, this car has received the 2JZ-GTE inline-six from a MkIV Supra, plus a Garrett GTX4294R turbo that's pushing up to 43 pounds of boost. All told, this E30 can max out at 1,305 horsepower and 1,163 lb-ft of torque.

All that power is routed to the rear end via a sequential transmission and an E34-generation BMW M5's rear differential. The suspension setup comes courtesy of Sellholm, with adjustable coilovers all around, while braking is handled by six-piston units up front and a set of E46 M3 brakes at the rear. Watching the car push the limits of traction throughout the entire lap certainly proves that behind the wheel, Jødahl is just has hardcore as the car he's driving.
