Creativity from gearheads apparently has no boundaries whatsoever. We've seen farmers create a Bugatti Chiron out of clay, techies add snow tracks to a Lambo, mechanics weld two Ladas together, and unrepentant modders create some of the craziest donks around. But when it comes to efficiency and inventiveness, as indicated by this YouTuber video released Friday, it's hard to top two bearded nerds from deciding to build a motorcycle out of items purchased at Home Depot. And the plan is to get the thing done on a budget of $1,200. How did they do? Let's find out.

Power Courtesy Of A DeWalt Lawnmower

Our heroes run into a spot of luck on their way to Home Depot when they stumble onto someone with a trailer full of junk including a bicycle with a chain they badly need for their project. The duo manages to finagle the bike for $5.

The next step is to get the motor for the contraption, which will come from a lawnmower. Our heroes first eye an electric Ryobi, but go for a DeWalt instead. Also purchased was a set of wheels that look like they would fit on a wheelbarrow, a set of chains, and sheets of plywood from which to build the frame. In a matter of hours, they're making a lot of progress.

"Can you guys believe it takes Orange County Choppers like three weeks to build a bike and we basically built one in like half a day?" asked one of the bearded dudes. "That's why they're out of business and we're crushing it."

Power And Chain Issues

They run into a problem with attaching the lawnmower motor to the wooden frame. First, they don't know which way the motor, originally responsible for rotating the blade, will turn. Second, when trying to get the thing going, it won't turn at all. They try to find the issue by going from the hub of where the blade was located all the way back to the throttle. Then there are other issues like keeping the bike chain taut; all of which are figured out in short order.

"I know this has never been done before probably because it's a horrible idea and that's because just like cars motorcycles are finely tuned machines but unlike cars, if something goes wrong, the consequences can be a little more serious," said one of the workers. "That is why this should be done only by a professional motorcycle builder."

A Home Depot Motorcycle For $1,649?

The result was they got a motorcycle that cost $100 more to build than what they budgeted for, but actually was good enough to be street legal. As a joke, they take it to Home Depot, line it up with some of the store's lawnmowers parked outside, and try to pass it off as a Home Depot motorcycle retailing for $2,399. No takers, so they bring the price down to $1,649. No such luck.

At least the build was a technical success. Now let's see these guys create something similar from items sold at Wal-Mart.
