The DeTomaso Pantera emerged during an era in which muscle cars and foreign exotics were both on the up and up. Combining the brute force of a Detroit V8 with Italian style, the Pantera remains popular for collectors who prize originality, although customized versions also have their benefits, as well. This example hails out of Wisconsin, where it was built up by Tony's Hot Rod Shop featuring a supercharged Ford Coyote V8 mounted behind the cockpit. And although it certainly looks bold and aggressive with serious modifications inside and out, the real fun comes when the big powerplant spools up during dyno testing that the shop caught on film.

Turn Up The Sound

The clip starts with some light action that sounds great at first, but as the Pantera keeps revving higher and higher, the full glory of a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 and its Kenne Bell supercharger come into play. Screaming and shrieking so loud it sounds ready to burst, the setup produces peak output of 750 horsepower.

Under The Hood

The heart of the build comes in the form of that Coyote V8, which has replaced what would have likely been a 351ci Cleveland V8 from the factory producing 330 horsepower. More than doubling the car's output obviously requires a host of complementary upgrades, including the custom intake setup seen above, which is matched by custom headers, as well as suspension mods like custom control arms. An electric power steering system has also been added.

An Interior To Match

The widebody exterior wouldn't look right with a factory interior, so Tony's Hot Rod Shop installed a dash sourced from a recent Mustang and then had the entire cabin redone by Keglers Kustoms, another shop in Antigo, Wisconsin. All told, the customer who commissioned this project has to be happy to have received a Pantera with the engine it deserves and all the modern amenities that make driving more comfortable, as well.
