The BMW iX M60 sure has big plans, considering it’s debuting its latest commercial for the Super Bowl and has roped in Arnold Schwarzenegger, Salma Hayek, and Ralf Moeller for some help.

And not just that, BMW Electric has also borrowed from Greek mythology, with Schwarzenegger and Hayek playing mythological couple Zeus and Hera, while Moeller is Poseidon. Here’s the lowdown on why fans call this Super Bowl’s best commercial yet.

Hera Gives Zeus A Treat

The commercial starts with Schwarzenegger and Hayek at Mt. Olympus, announcing their retirement. Poseidon asks them where they’d go, and Zeus aims his thunderbolt at Palm Springs, California. The shot moves to him on a pool float, getting disturbed when their neighbor asks him for some “free charge” when the hedge trimmer stops working.

In the ad, people keep asking Zeus for some charge for their dead batteries, and he's tired of all the interruptions. Plus, he cannot figure out the microwave or the electric outlets.

Since he’s stressed, Hera gets him a treat. A BWM All-Electric iX sees Zeus delighted at the “all-electric” bit. The couple goes for a drive with Zeus zapping electric lines for fun. Hera gives a knowing smile in the end, and Instagram feels this is the "best commercial ever".

The BMW iX EV Is Electrifying

While Hayek and Schwarzenegger make a compelling case, let’s talk specs. The BMW iX’s 111.5 kWh battery is not all that large and yet will jet 516 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of torque. The iX is also likely to have a 300-mile range and a 0-to-60 mph sprint of 4.6 seconds.

If you want more, the BMW iX M60 will be the performance version, with 610 horses and 811 lb-ft of torque in Sport Mode, and 532 horsepower and 749 lb-ft of torque in all-wheel-drive performance. The iX M60 will run a 0-to-60 mph sprint in just 3.6 seconds and have a range of 280 miles.

This puts it firmly head-on with Tesla models, but the BMW iX has some hidden beauties up its sleeve. The electric motor does not use rare earth metals at all, so it’s a boon for those who love the environment and want to do more than just buy a Tesla to save it.

And for those who love some speed, the M-tuned dual-axle air suspension with automatic level control will keep the iX M60 steady even when joyriding on mountain roads.

No wonder Schwarzenegger and Hayek looked so pleased.
