General Motors got a bit lucky when the earliest C8 Chevrolet Corvette deliveries, after production delays due to a strike in the fall of 2019, began in earnest just before pandemic-related slowdowns ground the automotive industry to a halt. But now, those same slowdowns have led to higher-spec C8 variants being delayed, which means that happy new owners might still get blown off the line by C7 and even C6 Corvettes with bigger engines under the hood. Sure, the C8 manages to get by respectably thanks to the mid-engined redesign, but at this point, it's just lacking in power. Twin-turbos and possibly even hybrid-electrification are on the horizon — the only question is timing. And there's no doubt that the Corvette's low-slung design and balanced chassis have always been highlights of the model's long history. If there's any doubt, just watch this video from Genovation Cars showing the company's all-electric-swapped C7 Chevrolet Corvette hitting Thunderhill to set a new lap record.

The Replacement For Displacement

Genovation's Corvette is called the GXE and the company has been developing the electric aftermarket Corvette for a long time now. Back in 2019, a lower-spec version emerged to impress the automotive world — now, the GXE boasts a whopping 800 horsepower and 718 lb-ft of torque from its electric drivetrain. With a seven-speed manual transmission, rather than the single-speed gearbox typically employed by electric cars, the GXE has managed to set a string of world-record top speeds, with the latest being a maxed-out run at 211.8 miles per hour.

As the world's fastest street-legal electric car (for now), the GXE employs a pair of electric motors under the hood that route power to the rear wheels through the Corvette's stock rear-mounted transaxle, though it has received an uprated differential. The car costs over $700,000 and the goal is for the EPA to rate it at 175 miles of range.

Power And Performance

A zero-to-60 sprint for the GXE takes less than three seconds, while little mechanical details that helped at Thunderhill include carbon-fiber wheels and coilovers in place of the Corvette's stock composite leaf springs. Watch (and listen!) the video above to see just how potent a performance-enhanced electric Corvette can be — this should be seriously inspiring for General Motors employees working on forthcoming versions of the C8, which could be even more impressive.
