Fears of a global coronavirus pandemic have wreaked havoc on the automotive industry as a whole, as manufacturers have been forced to shut down factories and shutter dealerships, while consumers remain largely wary of actually going in-person to buy a car. But the aftermarket and collectible world seems to have taken this opportunity to earn additional media coverage—and nobody's marketing team does a better, or more steady, job than the crew at Hennessey Performance in Texas. While the car world anxiously awaits Hennessey's official release of a twin-turbo C8 Corvette, the company has been busy churning out distracting video after distracting video, with the latest coming in the form of some preliminary testing of a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and a Lamborghini Urus at a remote drag strip.

Beasts Of Two Nations

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and the Lamborghini Urus both represent pinnacles of SUV power and performance. Hennessey already offers an HPE1000 upgrade package for the Trackhawk, which boosts power significantly higher than the Fiat-Chrysler product's factory ratings of 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque, a familiar stat to any fan of Dodge's Hellcat V8 engines since that's exactly what lurks under the hood. Of course, the Trackhawk has the advantage of four-wheel-drive traction when compared to the Challengers or Chargers that usually sport Hellcats, though it also tips the scales at around 5,300 pounds.

Meanwhile, the Urus leaves Lamborghini's factory with 641 horsepower on tap from its twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It weighs just about the same as the Trackhawk and also sends power to all four wheels. Presumably, Hennessey had these two top-notch SUVs on the track because there will be a forthcoming upgrade package for the Trackhawk that will probably offer ratings in excess of the current 1,000 horsepower and though Hennessey has yet to produce a modified Urus, nobody doubts the maniacal tuners from Texas will be releasing a souped-up version in the near future.
