With Chevy's all-new, and long awaited, mid-engine 2020 C8 Corvette finally out and about in the wild, critics, car aficionados and drag racing addicts alike have been scouring the web and looking for any information they can grab. And by all accounts, reports and races conducted thus far it appears to be an unmitigated success. The 2020 Lamborghini Huracan is no slouch either and with its screaming 5.2 liter V-10 is an aural delight. But how do these two supercars stack up against each other? Well, wonder no more as the folks at Hennessey pitted these two mid engined beasts in a head to head drag race. Let's check out the results.

In This Corner ...

All-new for 2020, the C8 Corvette is equipped with a 6.2 liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine cranking out 495 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. In independent tests, Motor Trend was able to coax some impressive numbers out of her with a 0 to 60 mph time of 2.8 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 11.1 seconds at 123.2 mph through the traps. But the model racing today has been mildly upgraded with "stainless steel exhaust, lightweight wheels with Hoosier race tires, and a bit of lowering to the ground." Power is up to just a lick over 500 hp.

... And In The Other Corner

In the other corner, the Huracan is Lamborghini’s “entry-level” super sports car powered by a 5.2-litre V10 making 630 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox directs power to all four wheels. The car is conservatively rated with a 0 to 62 mph time of just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 198 mph. The car racing today is bone stock.

Three...Two...One...Go!

So, what happened? I honestly wasn't sure myself but figured the race would be tight, and sure enough it was. The Corvette immediately got out of the hole much faster than the Lambo but once that V-10 got to stretch its legs it was all over for the Chevy. Even at a rolling start once you hit about 100 mph, say bye bye to the C8. But at about one quarter the price of the Lambo I'd say the value proposition clearly favors the Vette. Plus, once Hennessey finishes up its monster 1,200 hp twin turbo C8, it's all over for the Raging Bull. Buckle up.
