For any petrol head and car fanatic, owning an Alfa Romeo is probably a lifelong dream. Jay Leno, former chat show host, and car nut is lucky enough to have one or two in his collection. But did you know that Muhammad Ali used to own an Alfa Romeo Spider? Well in a clip taken from his “Jay Lenos Garage” CNBC show, Leno goes for a cruise in that very Spider and picks up Billy Crystal to join him for the ride along the way too.

The Alfa Romeo Spider Is A 1970s Icon

The Spider in question is a 1976 Spider, an incredibly iconic machine. It has a two-liter engine and a 110 hp and a five-speed transmission. That isn’t a lot of power, but it is more than enough to make the car a lot of fun to drive. The car actually belongs to Crystal, but despite that, he had no idea that Ali had actually owned this car! Ali was a big friend of Crystal's, so it was clearly a good day for him when he learned that Ali once owned the car.

The Trip In The Spider Allowed For Plenty Of Tale Swapping

The road trip in the car allowed the two to talk all about the legendary boxer. But one thing that Crystal said was that it was hard to imagine Ali actually driving this pretty small Alfa Romeo. Leno said that he would look a bit like a circus bear if he was sitting in the car! That certainly got a few laughs from Crystal but it's probably true. The Alfa Romeo is certainly a diminutive car, and perhaps not quite as luxurious as the Rolls-Royce that the boxer used to own.

The car though is the highlight of the video. The clip comes from an episode of the show that was all about cars of sports cars, and it is certainly a stunning-looking machine finished in that subtle but fetching gray color. The Rolls-Royce in comparison was brown, so quite a contrast between the two. This car is owned by a sports hero like Ali will certainly add plenty of value to an already iconic car.
