Amid all the recent developments surrounding Ford's revival of the Bronco and Jeep's response with the 392 Hemi-powered Wrangler, not to mention the introduction of the Ram TRX to take on the Ford F-150 Raptor, everyone seems to forget that no matter how hardcore a factory off-roader might look, plenty of owners are going to go right out and get stuck immediately. Perhaps the greatest reminder for off-roaders to stay humble on the trail comes from the YouTube channel Matt's Off Road Recovery, which follows a team of specialists operating in and around southern Utah as they help stuck drivers get unstuck. But even the pros can get in too deep, as proven by the latest clip featuring Matt's own heavily modded Jeep Cherokee getting bogged down in a mud pit.

Make The Call

The clip begins in the usual fashion: Winder Towing gets a call from someone who has exhausted all their skill and knowledge (sometimes, there's not much of either) trying to get out of a sticky situation. In this case, a Nissan Frontier towing a small travel trailer had gotten bogged down in a mud pit well known to Matt's Off Road Recovery. With another XJ-gen Cherokee on hand to help, the team tries to get the Nissan out of its predicament, only to find themselves being swallowed by the mud.

Don't Try This At Home

Even with four 4x4 SUVs in the mix, the rescue still takes some serious effort and time. One of the critical lessons here is to make sure that any recovery straps are the real deal — Matt's Off Road Recovery suggests Yankum Ropes – they are much more hardcore than average straps, which can snap under tension and literally cleave limbs from bodies. After leaving the mud pit, the video then turns to a Ram pickup that's stuck in some sand. If there's any one lesson to learn, it's to keep the phone number for Winder Towing handy during any off-roading expedition in the American Southwest.
