After over five years of putting the massively popular Hellcat motor into different platforms, FCA has finally made something truly special: a 710 horsepower seven-seater family SUV with enough power to blow away nearly any SUV south of $150,000. With FCA finally unveiling the most usable of the Hellcats, Dodge has shown exactly how horsepower-mad they are in the best way possible.

Family Fun

The supercharged 6.2 liter V8 has finally found its way into the Dodge Durango, and can take the whole family to 60 miles per hour in about 3.5 seconds and crosses the quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds. According to MotorWeek's Brian Robinson, "Dodge does it without sacrificing the capability of the vehicle" and mentions the tow rating of 8,700 pounds".

The Hellcat Durango pushes out a staggering 710 horsepower and 645-pound feet of torque setting a noticeable difference over the non-supercharged SRT model's 475 horsepower and 470-pound feet of torque. The outcome of this tuning is a 1.5-second difference around Dodge's 2.1-mile test track.

Serious Stopping Power

MotorWeek's Greg Carloss points out that with something this fast and this big, stopping quickly is just as important as starting quickly. "Luckily, the Durango is fitted with 6-piston Brembo brakes and nearly 16-inch rotors up front". This should be more than capable of stopping this brute just as quickly as it gets up to speed.

Family Resemblance

For 2021, the Durango receives some updates both on the interior and exterior. The interior has been redesigned to be more similar to the Challenger, while the exterior shows off some Charger Widebody styling cues on the headlights, taillights, and front grille. Unfortunately, the Hellcat Durango will only be sold for one year as a result of emission ratings changing and while the price has not been announced, if you want one you had better get in line now.
