Throughout the course of every car enthusiast's life, many cars are bought and sold. We buy and sell these cars for various reasons such as the pursuit of that next dream car, financial troubles, breakdowns resulting in headaches and it just not being worth fixing anymore, or multiple other possible reasons. With all this buying and selling there's bound to be a few cars we regret selling for whatever the reason was. Even celebrities like Richard Hammond and Harry Metcalfe are in the same boat. In the video below, the pair get reunited with a beautiful 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello.

Thanks For The Memories

One thing a lot of people can remember about Hammond from Top Gear is his love for American Muscle, but he also has a huge soft spot for front-engine Ferraris like the 550. In the video Richard mentions how although he appreciates the mid-engine cars the company is so famous for, its the front-engine ones that feel truly special to him.

Harry Metcalfe, former head and founder of Evo Magazine, joins Hammond on this reunion because he actually was the one who sold the car to Hammond after 3 years of ownership. Metcalfe mentions how he actually bought the car as a daily driver, and drove the car too and from work and home every day which resulted in a 140 mile round trip. Not too many great sportscars make great daily drivers, but according to Harry, the 550 was the perfect choice.

Shortly after Richard Hammond's terrifying crash, he was understandably in very rough shape both physically and mentally. Which is exactly what prompted his wife Mindy to get in touch with Harry. Hammond then enjoyed the car for a number of years until he needed to part with the car in order to pay for a house he had rented but backed out of living in.

Ever since that day, Hammond had missed owning the beautiful Ferrari as it was his favorite of the 6 cars he owned at the time. Seeing the car again definitely brought back all the good memories he had had with the car, as you can see the anguish in his face as the car drove away again on its way to be sold.

As car enthusiasts, we have a very special connection to the cars we've owned or currently own. Its a special bond between man and machine, and also between past and present. Nostalgia plays a big part in today's pop culture, and for a car enthusiast like Richard and Harry, something like a car is a huge key to unlocking that door to their glory days.
