TeslaCam is the Tesla answer to dashcam and is now featured on all new Teslas. The dashcam comes with a mobile storage device, as does the Sentry Mode also fitted on new Teslas. TeslaCam has picked up some weird and wonderful snippets, which are often shared on YouTube and social media. However, not all of the footage it captures is particularly pleasant. Some criminal footage has been recorded and it has often lead to several arrests. And the hope is that this footage, of a daylight robbery in San Francisco, will do the same thing.

Thieves Caught In The Act By TeslaCam

This footage was uploaded by Twitter user @amegregan5. While driving his Tesla behind a Toyota Prius in the city, a Honda Accord was tailing the latter car. The trio of vehicles was slowing down at an underpass and this is where the incident took place. The Accord pulled over behind the Prius, with one man jumping out of the car. He smashed the rear window of the Prius, grabbed a bag of what turned out to be $7,000 of recording equipment, then jumped into the Accord before the car sped away.

The victims of the robbery were Ben and his wife, and he had just finished a filming assignment at a Bay Area location; Ben is a real estate photographer. The assailants clearly had some idea of what they were after, as this wasn't just a random robbery. How else would they know exactly where to go in the car, and how could they know that car was actually carrying equipment? This had been thought through and was no doubt terrifying for Ben and his wife, and perhaps for Alex watching.

The License Plate Is Recorded For All To See

Hopefully, some justice can be done here. The video allows us to at least make out the Accord’s license plate which hopefully will allow the police to make some progress dealing with the situation. This footage also highlights just how helpful dashcam footage can be in these situations. A GoFundMe has been set up to help Ben buy new equipment, which currently has a goal of raising $4,500. Hopefully Ben can do just that, and that these criminals can be found and held responsible for their horrible acts.
