Absolutely anything can happen on the road, including sinkholes, which can sometimes even swallow a bus. These huge holes are often a threat for car drivers. It's not for nothing that people are constantly warned not to talk on the phone and communicate on social networks when they are driving. An example is a situation that happened on June 5 in China in the city of Ji’an in the Jiangxi Province.

How Did The Car Get Into A Sinkhole In China?

The man was driving his car on the public road and didn't see the sinkhole in front of him. As a result, his car fell down into it. He could have confused it with a shadow or just was not looking at the ground. A sinkhole occurred just a minute before the man was driving, so there were no special signs or fences.

Luckily, it was not that deep, so that he remained conscious. Moreover, he managed to climb out of the car on his own. Passers-by immediately helped him to get out of the sinkhole. After this, he was taken to the hospital. He is now in stable condition. After some time, police came to the place of the incident and got the car out of the sinkhole.

As Jizhou local authorities later wrote, this exact sinkhole appeared because of heavy rainfall over the past few days. However, the case keeps being investigated, so new details may appear soon.

Sinkholes have both natural and human causes. In nature, a sinkhole is possible when the soil is composed of soft sedimentary rocks such as limestone, gypsum, dolomite, or chalk. And groundwater from the inside washes them out, forming voids underground. The top layer of the soil, which is not able to hold the load for a long time, collapses.

This is far from the only case of a car getting into a sinkhole. This week, in Jerusalem, a sinkhole that opened up in the parking lot outside a hospital has swallowed up several parked cars. But luckily, there was no driver inside. If it occurred a little more to the right, it could have taken out several dozens of cars at once.
