Nissan’s Z Proto has formed the basis of the new Fairlady and is set to morph into the Nissan 400Z not too far down the line. The company seems set to create a car perhaps more akin to early examples of the Fairlady range, with some design cues incorporated from the original Datsun Fairlady, or the Datsun 240Z as it's better known among others. A new promotional video from Nissan has shown off the Z Proto, showing off what looks like a virtual world while also driving with earlier examples of the car and it has been uploaded onto YouTube thanks to Car Watch Channel.

Fairlady Z Prototype At The Tokyo Auto Salon 2021

The promotional video played at the Tokyo Auto Salon. In the video, viewers can see a virtual representation of the Z Proto driving alongside the 300ZX, the 350Z, the 370Z, and the original 240Z Fairlady model. There is quite a lot of hype surrounding the new Fairlady, and the Z Proto is effectively what we will get with the new 400Z apart from a few small design tweaks, such as the addition of rear-view cameras and parking sensors. The inclusion of earlier models in the video reflect Nissan’s aim to really honor the past of the Z cars.

Virtual Z Proto Seen Driving On The Track

The video itself looks almost as if it came from a video game or some form of virtual software. It starts with a 240Z driving through a car park building before coming out from the other side of a pillar and morphing into the Z Proto. The Z Proto is driving along a race track before going through a high-speed bowl section and joining all the other aforementioned cars in the Fairlady range. As they speed across the track, the camera starts to pan out, revealing a lone Z Proto on the infield course.

Shortly before the video ends, the camera pans out further to reveal that the track is in the middle of a giant Nissan logo. The Z Proto features some design cues from earlier cars, such as the stacked oval taillights from the 300ZX. Patent images were recently leaked of the new Fairlady, which is set to become the 400Z, and while there are design differences, the two cars are very closely matched in terms of looks.
