The YouTuber known as TheStradman actually goes by the name James in real life, though his dream car is a 2004 Ferrari Challenge Stradale, hence the moniker. James lives a rough one, though, and has to make do with his Ferrari 458 in the interim—perhaps he just hates it so much that a bit of off-roading was the only way to work out his road rage. Either way, amid an internet chock-full of the new Ford Bronco being tested at the Rubicon Trail and around the Moab region, plus teasers from FCA of the 392 Hemi-powered Wrangler and the Raptor-slaying Ram TRX, it's refreshing to see someone having a bit of nerve-racking fun as TheStradman and his Ferrari 458 abandon the pavement for some quick off-roading.

Road Trip!

In the video, the Ferrari undergoes some rough highway driving in Nevada, though it's really the period off the tarmac that everyone is here to see. And things could be a bit more exciting, to be honest, as most of the filming involves trying to get the beefy 4.5-liter V8-powered supercar up to near its top speed on the dry lake bed. But getting to the flat, dusty salt flats does require a bit of exploration on a gravel road—and not many Ferrari owners would be willing to risk a rock chip or torn CV boot with those kinds of shenanigans!

Don't Try This At Home

The Ferrari 458 should be capable of a top speed of 210 miles per hour, though whether that figure will stand on a softer surface is the purpose of TheStradman's scientific efforts in this clip. Over the course of some seriously screaming moments, he manages to get all the way up to 175 miles per hour—before having to slow down lest he hits some shrubbery, since turning on the dust is clearly a bad idea.

On a second run, he manages to clear 178 miles per hour and then hits some gravel while braking. With the air conditioning off and the cabin getting fogged up by dust (no N95 filtration in a Ferrari, apparently), James proclaims he's sweating profusely and has to give up on hitting higher speeds.
