One of the biggest draws of car video channels on YouTube is pitting supercars against each other, especially in a quarter-mile race. Few have as many targets on their rear fenders as the Corvette, which has had to endure challenges by the likes of a Shelby Mustang GT500, a Dodge RAM TRX, a Tesla Model S and Charger Hellcat, and a Porsche Taycan Turbo. But in a video released by YouTubers RearWheelDrive, it's a different Porsche taking on a 2020 Chevrolet C8 Corvette in the form of a 2017 718 Cayman S. And the heats here aren't merely straight sprints down a two-lane course, but an obstacle course in a parking lot.

On Paper The C8 Would Leave the Cayman In The Dust

It's a formidable clash between two very fast cars, with this Corvette becoming a highly-prized acquisition due to the pandemic. Originally available for roughly $60,000, chances are the price on these C8s has since skyrocketed especially when the coronavirus halted production after only 2,700 of these vehicles rolled out. It also didn't hurt that the 2020 model boasted a mid-engined V8 with 495 horsepower enabling it to hit 0-60 mph in less than three seconds and a blistering top speed exceeding 190 mph.

Roughly in the same price range, the 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman S was a departure from its previous naturally aspirated model, instead opting for the turbocharged route. That feeds air to a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder block that churns out 345 horsepower as well as 310 pound-feet of torque. The result is a 0-60 mph time span of 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 177. In a flat-out, side-by-side run, the Porsche would lose handily to the C8, which is why the RearWheel Drive folks also wanted to test the maneuverability of the two cars.

This autocross involved a combination of speed and agility with each competitor zipping down the course doing slaloms and loops between a series of cones before returning with the pedal to the medal. Each car would get three tries on the circuit, although the contest would be decided in a best two-out-of-three showdown.

The Corvette was flawless heading through the course and on the stretch all the way back, posting results of 29.22 and 27.46 seconds after only two runs.

The Porsche Wasn't So Fortunate

On the other hand, the Porsche struggled with a 30.02 after its first run. Although it managed to get as low as 29.34 seconds in its sophomore run, the Cayman S was hit with a six-second penalty after hitting two cones on the slalom and swinging out far too wide during a loop maneuver.

After both cars hit the circuit twice, the C8 was the overwhelming winner, although the Porsche driver wanted one more crack at it. He managed a final run of 29.94 seconds without any penalties.
