Over at Bradenton Motorsports Park, yet another interesting drag race, made more notable for the engine in today’s car.

That’s because, coming in black with race modifications and parachute hanging off the rear, this S197 (fifth generation) Mustang is the real protagonist of this short video on YouTube.

Under the hood, instead of the usual Ford V8, there is something altogether more menacing – this relatively-unassuming black Mustang has a secret weapon from Dodge in its arsenal that it uses against unsuspecting rivals on the strip.

Let’s see how it does and what kind of motor is spinning under the hood.

The Dodge-Powered Mustang Has A Great Soundtrack And Awesome Acceleration

At the front of the car, under the sleek hood, is a Dodge Challenger Demon 6.2-liter V8 with 840 hp and 770 lb-ft of torque, force-fed by a supercharger to produce that high output.

The only give-away from the outside of the car is the red logo on the outside of the front-side fender, looking awesome against the black paintwork.

While the Challenger is a big, heavy car, this Ford should make the most of the Mustang’s relatively lightweight frame to see a fast time on the strip.

Normally, a fifth-gen Mustang with the supercharged V8 will be able to reach 60 mph between 4 and 5 seconds depending on the model but the Dodge Challenger Demon’s official 0-60 mph time stands at 2.3 seconds, so this should be interesting.

The Demon Is Too Fast, Too Furious For the Competition

The first of two races is against what looks like a third-gen mustang in white with no hood, also race-prepared, on an overcast day. The burn-outs commence prior to the light going green.

The Demon-powered Mustang is off the line much quicker than its rival, with a low wheelie leaving its competitor in the dust. With a 7.5-second quarter-mile time at 169 mph, it’s quick; the other car makes an 8.9-second time at 150 mph — that’s Demon power.

Next, it’s exciting as the Demon engine meets its family – a white Dodge Challenger. With a single scoop on the front, it looks like it might be a standard Hellcat, and judging by the way the Demon Mustang pulls out a massive lead from the first second, it must be the standard car.

The time is 7.6-seconds on the quarter-mile for the Demon at 163 mph, slightly slower, so it could be the reaction time on that one that raised the sprint time.
