The internet is replete with drag race videos featuring cars designed to go fast. But Mat Watson and his crew at Carwow have gone in a different direction. Instead of racing a Tesla and a Dodge Challenger Redeye, they have posted a video on their YouTube Channel with several construction vehicles squaring off at a drag strip.

This is undoubtedly an unusual group of vehicles to see at a drag strip. After all, construction vehicles are some of the slowest vehicles on the road. That is why they often sport a 'slow-moving-vehicle' decal on their rear bumper.

The Contenders In This Unusual Competition

There are seven construction vehicles in this video. They belong to a business named Ashville Aggregates. This company is a construction material wholesaler based in West Drayton, England.

Six of the vehicles are Scania models, and one is a Volvo. The Scania vehicles have engines displacing either 9.0-liters or 13.0-liters. The engine in the Volvo is 5.0-liters. The Volvo has 220 horsepower, while the Scania models have 250 to 500 horsepower.

The owner of Ashville Aggregates, is driving a Scania R500 XT tractor unit with a 13.0-liter engine. This vehicle has an extendable trailer attached to it. Mat Watson is driving a Scania tipper truck with a 13.0-liter engine. This vehicle is for hauling waste from construction sites.

What Happens When You Race Construction Vehicles

The first match is a 1/4-mile race that begins from a dig. The start of the race is void of the tire smoke, pop-a-wheelies, and other theatrics seen in some drag races.

The snail-like pace of this drag race is noticeable. It seems to take forever in comparison to some races that are over in seconds. When the finish line finally arrives, the tipper truck is first with a time of 27.5 seconds. At the rear is the volumetric concrete truck, which takes 32.1 seconds to finish.

The second race starts from a 20 mph roll. The tractor unit sheds its trailer. As a result of the weight reduction, it can take an early lead in the race. But Mat Watson's tipper truck reels it in and crosses the finish line in first place.

The final race is a braking competition. All the construction vehicles slam their brakes while traveling at 40 mph. The video appears to show all the vehicles stopped near each other, and there is no mention of the winner.
