YouTuber Cleetus McFarlandYouTuber Cleetus McFarland has uploaded a video in which he replaces engine oil with gasoline. While the Ford Crown Victoria is a very reliable car, with the specimen in the video running well despite hosting over 175,000 miles, replacing its oil with 93 pump gas ends up wrecking the engine, but only after some surprising results. It should be obvious, but this is truly something that's not safe to do at home, or anywhere else for that matter, there is a reason cars need oil and not just gasoline and this video demonstrates that well.

A Ridiculous Experiment To Say The Least

Most people would not even dare think about replacing oil with gasoline in a car, but for those curious enough to want to know, Cleetus McFarland attempted it so that no one has to do it ever again.

Here's what went down. The oil in the Crown Vic was first drained before gasoline fills the oil sump. Yes, that's correct, gasoline in the oil sump and not in the fuel tank. More specifically, the crew pours 1.37 gallons of 93 octane gasoline inside the oil sump. Afterward, the team implements some safety measures, such as a full-face helmet and the camera crew standing back, to ensure the safety of everyone should anything go wrong.

Upon the first attempt, McFarland is unable to start the car, so the team decides to remove a variety of components from the engine to help the car startup. The car manages to start, with McFarland revving the car to ensure that it stays running. However, after putting it into first gear, the gasoline ignitions and fire erupts from under the car. McFarland escapes and the team rushes in with fire extinguishers to stop the flames.

McFarland decides not to give up after the first failed attempt but moves the car from its current position near the gas tanks to maximize safety, should something go wrong again.

McFarland manages to make the car drive and is able to complete 17 laps before the car breaks down. Admittedly, the car experiences major problems even before the 17th lap, the most significant being rod knock, which gets worse with each lap. The team ends the video by summarizing that oil is essential to the healthy functioning of an engine, as it helps lubricate its moving parts.
