For something that started out as a joke, Cleetus McFarland has done pretty well with his 2.6 million subscriber YouTuber Channel. Real name Garrett Mitchell, McFarland is not adverse to a few crazy challenges and for doing something bold. In a series that actually stretches back a couple of years, McFarland has been driving various vehicles underwater, and this time around he is taking his Humvee and trying to get it to cross the pond where he is taking his cars for their underwater adventures.

Subjecting The Humvee To A Deep Pond

In a previous video, McFarland showed some of the preparations that he and the team were going to try and make sure the Humvee could get through the water without faltering. The pond itself is around 12 feet deep, so in effect, the Humvee has been fitted with snorkeling equipment to allow it to “breathe” under the water, and that’s even included fitting a scuba diving tank to the car for McFarland as well. The Humvee looked pretty ridiculous with all the snorkels attached, but McFarland and the team were certainly up for it.

The Humvee Becomes Fully Submerged

When McFarland said he was going fully underwater with it, he really meant that. The Humvee is 100% submerged with just those snorkels showing where it is. And it looked like it was going well, until it then stopped and all we could see was fumes coming out of one of the stacks, and McFarland emerging from the depths as the massive vehicle had got stuck at the bottom. So it had driven underwater, but just not all the way through the pond.

The Engine Kept Running Despite The Humvee Getting Stuck

Remarkably, the snorkel showed that the engine in the car was very much still running as it was being towed out of the water. The issues arose as with the Humvee going in nose first at quite an angle, it struck the bottom of the pond and started collecting mud and then just got stuck. McFarland said he could then just feel the tires spinning, and he knew then it would need towing out. But, he did say it had been a success despite that, as the Humvee had kept running through it all and was able to get through a good portion of the pond before getting stuck, showing just how tough this ex-military vehicle is.
