On the YouTube channel B is for Build, it seems that no automotive project is too daunting. In a recent episode, the crew is in the process of rebuilding the shell of a wrecked Lamborghini Huracan and turning it into a monster off-road racer.

At this point in the build, the Huracan has already been fitted with a beefy exo-cage made of steel tubing, and the plan is to bolt in the de facto standard when it comes to engine swaps: the Chevrolet LS-series V8 motor.

Off Road Lamborghini Huracan Build

Released in 2014, the Huracan was equipped with all-wheel-drive and a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated Audi/Lamborghini V10 engine with a power output of 610 hp. With a curb weight of 3,424 lb, the Huracan was road tested with a 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds.

For this build however, American muscle would be a substitute for the exotic engine. According to builder Chris Steinbacher, turning this mashup concept into reality required a lot of wiring.

“When you’re building a race car, it’s kind of all step-by-step. You need a lot of buttons, and they have to do a lot of different things, and some of them involve each other,” he said.

To accomplish this, Steinbacher decided to go with a standalone Holley Terminator ECU and SmartWire Power Control Module.

“It helps you get rid of a lot of relays and a lot of switches,” he said.

While the plan was to do all the vehicle’s wiring in a single day, it ended up taking a bit longer than expected.

“I think I could have got it done in one day, but got pretty sidetracked,” he said.

With Steinbacher working on wiring, the other crew members tackled the job of fabricating a battery tray and plumbing in the power steering system.

With the wiring in place, the moment of truth was close at hand: firing up the motor for the first time.

After a couple of minor adjustments, the LS engine roars to life, rumbling noisily through open headers.

“It starts! The car starts and runs!” exclaimed Steinbacher. “We’ve got a little fine tuning to do but we are there.”
