It's no secret that many places employ and utilize impressive and even sometimes cool vehicles for police work, but sometimes these vehicles do have reasons for their use. This police Lamborghini Huracan is definitely one of the coolest, but as the Italian police showed recently, all that speed and power comes with a purpose. This Huracan recently got the opportunity to help save someone's life, all thanks to the speed that the car is capable of going.

Response Time

The Italian state police department received a call to get a kidney transported to a hospital at the end of October 2020 that required faster travel for surgery. While in most places this would mean that there is a police escort or something similar to help an ambulance transport an organ faster, the police had another trick up their sleeve. The Italian police knew to take out the big guns: their Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4.

In 2015, Lamborghini gifted the Italian state police with a new Huracan LP610-4, just as they had with its predecessor, the Gallardo LP560-4 back in 2008. The Huracan, which has a top speed of 202 miles per hour, has a large enough front trunk to place the cooler for the kidney that was needed, as well as the usability for the officer driving the car to safely transport the organ to the hospital for surgery very quickly and securely. While this car is usually used in shows, the police wasted no time using it for it's intended purpose for such an important surgery.

The surgery, which took place on October 2oth, 2020 required an immensely fast transport. Covering just shy of 500 kilometers, the specially-equipped Lamborghini drove from the southern end of Italy up to the north, then back to the center to pick up and deliver the kidney. Officials have said that the car was averaging over 230 kilometers per hour, or around 145 miles per hour to travel from Padua, where the car is based, up to Rome, 492 kilometers away.

In Record Time

The car travelled to Gemelli University Hospital for life-saving kidney surgery. The drive, which is supposed to take over four and a half hours from Padua to Rome, was covered in around 3 hours, setting a new record for the fastest emergency drive through Italy ever.

Upon arrival, the medical crew immediately came out to take custody of the refrigerated container with the kidney before rushing it inside for surgery prep. Both the police and the medical staff said that it would not have been possible for any other vehicle to transport the organ in time for the transplant to be done properly.
