You gotta hand it to some folks for their ingenuity in figuring out multipurpose uses for classic cars, including functions that were never the intent among the automakers that created them. Some are pretty nifty like amphibious amenities like that Lotus Esprit that doubled as a minisub in the Bond flick The Spy Who Loved Me. Or a 1931 Bentley that used to be a chicken coop before it eventually fell into the hands of Jay Leno. And then there's Vũ Văn Nam, a Vietnamese social media hotshot who runs his own NHẾT TV channel on YouTube, who premiered a video on Sunday catching him selling melons under the front hood of a homemade Ferrari.

Homemade Ferrari Gets Those Melons Moving

Man came up with a new purpose for his Ferrari 488 GT: to hawk his perishable wares. No, it’s not a real 488 GT. That monster boasts a twin-turbo, 3.9-liter V8 engine that generates 661 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque. It also exceeds 200 mph as a top speed and can hit zero-60 in 2.9 seconds. While this one doesn’t boast incredible performance numbers, what it does possess—which is more to Van's purposes—is plenty of room in the front trunk for dozens of melons.

Storage is about the only thing working in Van's favor. The Ferrari's vending territory is a neighborhood connected by narrow paths designed more for bicycles and pedestrians than for prancing horses, even homemade ones. That means Van had to go slow to avoid collisions, which shouldn’t have been too difficult considering whatever powers it. And with it running low to the ground, that meant having to deal with some nasty surface contours once in a while.

But the biggest factor going for Van is the eye candy appeal. This Ferrari attracts a crowd and once Van pops open the hood to start selling those melons, he unloads melons galore at each stop. The way things were going, Van figured out it wouldn't be long before he ran out of inventory.

A few stops into his route, Van runs out of melons, meaning he has time to spend the rest of the day fishing. But for every item sold, he's exponentially been photographed by patrons with cellphones meaning social media will be working overtime documenting the spectacle. While there's no word on what Ferrari thought about the whole thing, suffice to say the company might have unwittingly stumbled onto a unique outreach promotion.
