Back in 2018, Toyota announced that they would be making their first ever supercar for road use based on the Le Mans TS050 hypercar. After what seemed like forever, it looks like the new car—currently dubbed the GR010 Hybrid Hypercar—is nearly ready and is now slated for World Endurance Championship racing as well. According to Mike Conway, one of the drivers of the car, "it is a fantastic experience to be part of racing developments which will be translated into future road cars."

GR010 Hybrid Hypercar Is New Territory

Going by some of the drivers, it feels slightly heavier and less powerful than the Le Mans car, but requires much more driving skills and input. According to Gazoo Racing's press release, the GR010 Hybrid uses a 23.7 gallon fuel tank and weighs less than 2,300 pounds. The engine alone makes 670 hp while the hybrid system makes an additional 268 hp. Team director Rob Leupin said, "Over our nine years in WEC we have achieved a lot, but are not complacent." With the team working together to set the cars up, Toyota has said that this will generate their new hypercar as well as how they make their performance cars as well.
