Unless you have been living in the vast and lonely expanse of the Himalayas for the past two decades or so, you must have seen a Toyota Prius. Before the electric car and Tesla became synonymous with the one thing that would save the planet, Prius bore that weight on its shoulders, or should we say wheels.

The car looked okay, and some four million Prii have sold to date, based on just one thing, its fuel efficiency. So basically, the Prius is “that guy.” The smug one at the office, the college topper, and the one dude at school who had every answer for every teacher along with simultaneously being the coolest kid on the block. You hate it, and you hate yourself for hating it too.

And yet, given the choice of these expensive cars, we’d honestly drive a Prius, any day. Why? Because these so-called luxury cars proved to be a disappointment in more ways than one, to many of their buyers.

10 Rolls-Royce Ghost: More Of A Poltergeist

Via BMWBlog

Surprised? Well, Rolls-Royce is known for being the epitome of luxury, and one of the cars often bought by the celebrities in droves because this is the kind of car that shows you have reached your zenith of success. And clearly, it has the looks to match.

And yet, in 2012, the Rolls Royce Ghost had to issue a recall because of a faulty auxiliary pump, which caused the vehicle to overheat and put it at risk of fires. While a one time mistake can be forgiven, the same thing happened in 2018 as well, and there are plenty of lemon law court cases rolling against the Royce.

9 Tesla Model X: All Is Not Well?

Via Forbes

In 2017, Consumer Reports dubbed the Tesla Model X one of the least reliable vehicles, and at the time, many consumers had plenty of not-so-stellar things to say about it. Of course, since then, the ratings have gone back to being healthy, probably why Elon Musk is the richest dude on the planet today.

But at the time, the Tesla Model X had plenty of issues when it came to brakes, interiors, and even the all-wheel-drive system, pointing to shoddy assembly.

8 Maserati Quattroporte: One Too Many Small Issues

Via Autogespot

One of these, owned by Miley Cyrus was stolen. So now you get the target consumer and the fact that someone was actually able to steal one, which does not instill any kind of confidence in it. While it looked gorgeous and felt rather sinful to be in, there were some issues with it as well.

Via NetCarShow

One of the main issues was the transmission, something that the owners pointed out and drove back to the dealers to fix. Plus, many owners also pointed out a million small things that could basically drive people mad considering the amount of money the car cost.

7 Lamborghini Aventador: More Recalls Than Not

Via MotorAuthority

Apparently, cars as expensive as Lamborghini Aventadors also get recalled, and it happened rather recently too when 2017-2019 Aventador S Coupes and S Roadsters were hauled back by Lambo because one too many owners had complaints about the engine management software. Clearly, even expensive cars err, and that too, expensively.

Via CARMagazine

In 2011, one owner finally filed a lemon lawsuit against the company when he had to haul in his Gallardo to the dealer some eight times for brake issues. Not the best kind of complaint about a car that goes as fast as the wind, right?

6 Infiniti QX70: Too Old A Car

Via Reddit

By the time they finally took the QX70 off the market and replaced it with the QX50, it was begging to be replaced. Introduced in 2003, the QX70 did get renamed in 2013/14 (it was called the FX before that) but its age showed just about everywhere.

Via CarandDriver

The engine was fine when it comes to power but is a guzzler and despite the car being luxurious, it just seemed a bit faded when compared to the luxury crossovers of the time. Paying for this luxury meant you had dated taste and it did not hold on to its value all that well either.

5 Lincoln MKT: A Whole Bunch Of Ugly

2018 Lincoln MKT
Via Lincoln

In its best year of sales, the Lincoln MKT sold a total of a little over 7,000 cars. The worst year it sold less than 2,500 and yet this ugly, overpriced, and dated excuse for a luxury car sold from 2009 to 2019, making it a bad choice for not just a year but one whole decade.

Via BozemanLincoln

The in-car technology was dated, and fuel economy was dismal, to say the least, and from the front, the car resembled a very toothy underwater creature you did not want to see come up behind you in the rear-view mirror.

4 BMW 5 Series: One Issue Too Many

Via BentleyTysons

Despite being luxurious and a highly vaunted brand, BMW’s market value, and reliability seems to be slipping especially because of the 5 Series. There have been far too many complaints and recalls, some of which included faulty battery mounting, airbag issues, and fuel gauge issues.

There have been plenty of lemon lawsuits filed against BMW over the quality of their products and several of the lawsuits have been ruled in the plaintiff’s favor, proving that quality control at BMW has slipped below standard.

3 Cadillac ATS: Entirely Too Boring

2018 Black Cadillac ATS Sedan On The Move Front 3/4 View
Via Cadillac

The market right now is flooded with all sorts of cool cars, but the Cadillac ATS is not one of them. This is why come 2019, it was finally stopped. We can’t quite point out what is very wrong with the car because it's not one thing.

Via Pinterest

It’s just one very boring, behind-the-time, and trying-too-hard lackluster car with nothing that stands out to make it work. The styling is forgettable and the powertrain is unlikely to move you much. Basically, this is a car that lacks a USP.

2 Mercedes-Benz GLE: Not A Great Merc

Via DriveMag

Again the problem with the Mercedes-Benz GLE isn’t that it's particularly bad or has any major problem. The problem with it is that it's dated. Introduced as the M-Class in 2011, it was renamed the GLE in 2015 but only with minor upgrades.

Via TopSpeed

Of course, things seem to be better with it entering its fourth generation in 2019, and ratings have improved but even so, the suspension leaves a lot to be desired with AMG models making all occupants suffer for their need for power and speed.

1 Buick Envision: A Very Obscure Vision

Via TheCarConnection

We don’t really know what the Buick envisioned for the Envision, all puns intended because this premium car misses its target by a mile. For a pricey crossover, you get a loud cabin and a ride that is on the wrong side of comfortable and smooth.

Via WHEELS.ca

And in case you still need another reason to give it a miss, the steering has a mind of its own, free of the steering wheel you are grappling with. Now, where’s that Toyota dealership again?
