Customizing a vehicle can often have a wow effect. When it is done creatively and tastefully, a customized car can instill respect and awe. However, some tuners tend to take it a bit too far. Whether it is spinner rims, aerodynamic mirrors, donk styled sedans, or bullet hole stickers, some fads either need to be reconsidered or completely phased out.
A trend that has been popular over the past decade or two is vinyl wraps. Vinyl wraps are an easy, cost-effective, and practical way to give a car a new shiny look. When professionally applied, they can turn a simple car into a mean-looking monster. There are still times when wraps will leave onlookers scratching their heads as a sign of confusion or plain disgust.
10 Joker (Suicide Squad) BMW I8
Suicide Squad was another blockbuster filled with explosions and weird villain tirades. Jared Leto, the Joker, did a decent job of conveying his character's mental instability. Apparently, some tuners out there were beyond amazed by Leto's performance and decided to pay him tribute with this glow in the dark "hahahahaha" themed BMW I8.
Is it ugly? Yes. Will it age well? Absolutely not. With the BMW I8 being discontinued, it is sad to see that one went to waste. On the other hand, car fans will agree that the glow in the dark effect is absolutely mesmerizing (if you are 5 years old). At least, the I8 remains an I8 which is an all-around great car.
9 Re-branded Ferrari 488 GTB
Most car aficionados wanted (or still want) to drive around in Ferrari. The Italian supercar maker has always been and is one of the most luxurious and respected car brands on the market. During the Michael Schumacher era, Ferrari secured several pole positions thus making the Scuderia the dominant Formula 1 team.
Though Ferrari cars are expensive, there are several owners willing to modify their cars for even more exclusivity. This Supreme/Louis Vuitton edition is by far the tackiest thing readers will stumble upon today. Lacking any taste, this car seems to belong to a member of the new generation of mumble rappers.
8 Kanye West's Lamborghini Urus
Kanye West is known for his avant-garde music, but also for his numerous meltdowns and relationship with the infamous Kim Kardashian. Though the self-proclaimed "greatest artist alive" owns quite a number of luxury cars, his tastes in customized cars tend to match his tastes in fashion.
The napkin-colored Lamborghini Urus is rocking some spare wheel-looking rims that must have cost a fortune. The car went from a sporty look to something as attractive as a Pontiac Aztek. Well done, Kanye. Car fans will appreciate the tinted windows, which is perfect to remain incognito. Nobody wants to be seen in one of the ugliest Lamborghini Urus in Southern California.
7 Psychedelic Lamborghini Aventador
This wrap will definitely not age well. This transformational festival-inspired Lamborghini Aventador seems to be neither street legal as it may blind other motorists, nor FDA approved as it may be on the list of controlled substances.
The custom rims, also getting the same treatment, seem to have been spray-painted by the little girl that lives down the street and has rainbow streamers on the handlebars of her bicycle. A nice car to drive around the Bay Area and some areas of Miami, this Aventador makes people wonder if money and taste go together.
6 Jeff Koon's M3 GT2
Jeff Koon enjoys two things in life: art and racing. As a result, Koon decided to combine both. His BMW M3 is atypical to say the least. Not the usual car wrap found on a racecar, the M3 still looks somewhat interesting.
Given the fact that Koon is a professional and well-known artist, car fans will let this one slide. Despite the strange, hyperspace jump looking stripes, the BMW M3 remains one hell of a racecar.
5 Spoiled McLaren Senna
The McLaren Senna is the type of supercar that is not accessible to most rich people. It is the supercar of the super-rich. For $1,000,000, the McLaren Senna can be yours. Well, being rich does not equate great tastes. This British, google wearing gorilla themed Senna is the definition of disappointment.
Gorillaz fans may find it cool, but car fans will just shake their heads wondering why such an atrocity was committed. It is difficult to figure out whether the gorilla or the wooden panels are the most atrocious things on this car.
4 Air Jordan Lamborghini Aventador
The Lamborghini Aventador is a marvelous car with mind-blowing performances and aesthetics. As a result, high-end tuners have put a lot of energy into making the car even better looking and faster. It is not the case for most tuners. This two-tone matte white and light blue wrap is already ugly.
The cherry on top, however, is the Nike swoosh and the text that can be found on various shoes of the same brand. 15-year-olds may think this Lamborghini is "lit", but older and more mature car fans may find this Aventador absolutely horrendous. Diamond Autosport is the creator of this monstrosity.
3 Porsche Panamera Bape Camo
Camo wraps have been really trendy and oftentimes look absolutely awesome. However, this Porsche Panamera has a bit too much going on. Between the camo, the WWII fighter jet mouth design, the graffiti, and the metal door, there is a bit too much going.
This otherwise perfectly fine Panamera was turned into a knock-off hot-wheels car. It is unclear what the ultimate goal of the tuner was. Perhaps the car belongs to Kid Rock. The only sure thing is that this car may turn heads for the wrong reason. Luckily, wraps can be removed and changed.
2 British Rolls-Royce
The Rolls-Royce Wraith is the pinnacle of British luxury. It is also important to keep in mind that the British tend to be highly eccentric. This Jean-Michel Basquiat themed Wraith does not fail to show what makes the UK such an amazing place to visit.
Though it seems as if a toddler was given the tools (and permission) to draw on this Rolls-Royce, the end result is not as bad as it could have been. It sure is weird based on American standards, but Rolls-Royce are being wrapped in camo over here. To each their own.
1 Oh The Irony
The Toyota Prius, one of the best-selling hybrid vehicles in the US, has had its fair share of modifications. Whether it is a gold, flowery, or manga wrap, the Prius has seen it all. Someone decided that it was necessary to honor America, land of the free and home of the brave, by wrapping a Toyota Prius with the star-spangled banner and a fierce looking bald eagle's head.
This tuner or client must think that the Prius is America's most emblematic car available. Corvette? Mustang? Camaro? No. A Japanese hybrid? Absolutely. It is hard to tell whether the car belongs to an environmentally friendly redneck or a Californian hardcore Republican voter. So many unanswered questions.
