We all love luxury cars. We all know luxury cars have to have features that are massively different from those you would see in a normal car. Luxury cars have innovated over the years and most of them have had groundbreaking features that separate them from the norm.

These can form simple things such as Mercedes offering a seatbelt assist in their CL models to Rolls-Royce offering 40,000 shades of paint on their Phantom cars. However, it gets to the point where some luxurious flagship cars end up being straight-up weird, such as the following cars.

9 Citroën CX

The Citroën CX is one of the strangest cars you will probably ever see. It was a replacement for the also strange DS and was built at a time where Citroën really was radical. This car came with no self-canceling indicators as the designers believed it should be up to the driver on when to cancel the indication.

It had hydropneumatic suspension which meant that the suspension is controlled by hydraulic liquid. The series 1 CX also had a spaceship dashboard where the speedometer was like a rotating drum.

8 Renault Avantime

via honestjohn.co.uk

When you think of a GT car you think of something low, sleek, stylish, and sporty. However, Renault decided to change the norm with the weirdest GT car ever. The Avantime. This crazy French car was based on the mk3 Renault Espace MPV and shared the same huge interior. It was spacious and one of the engine options was a large 207hp 3.0 V6.

It's not a fast car by any means, neither is it a stylish car. But it is very comfortable and spacious. In fact, you could probably sleep in it if you wanted to.

7 Cadillac DeVille MK1

The MK1 DeVille was only made for it a year from 1959 to 1960 but it was a crazy car. Known mainly for its weird fins and lights, this luxury car was one of the best Cadillacs ever made. It had razor-sharp fins and bullet-shaped tail-lights. How creative was this design? It's a beautiful car that sold over 50,000 in that one year which counts to 37% of Cadillacs sold that year.

The DeVille mk1 is an executive car made in an era where people had ridiculous amounts of imagination and some disposable income. It should have been on the list of the best Cadillac's ever made.

6 Aston Martin Cygnet

Some argue the Cygnet is not a luxury car but is in fact a Toyota IQ in a fancy dress. With 300 sold, it was a massive flop but inside there is a lot of leather and comfy Aston Martin seats. The Cygnet is a good-looking car and is a stylish city car perfect for the streets of London. Think of this as a small Chanel bag. It's completely useless but you buy it anyway because it's somewhat cool.

It was not powerful GT like the rest of the lineup at all. But it did share the same leather and was quite practical ironically as it could easily fit in small parking spaces. Bodywork is reported to be very expensive to repair though.

5 Citroën C6

Even under Peugeot, Citroën still wanted to be quirky. It was a sleek-looking sedan with an aim to rival the likes of the Audi A6 or BMW 5-Series. It was different and unique and with hydroactive suspension (hydraulic controlled) it was very comfortable. The C6 was a fastback sedan so it looked somewhat sporty.

The C6 is very much a French car with ex-presidents Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy both choosing to use the C6 as their presidential car. It carries class and uniqueness and park it next to its German rivals you see just how soulful this big sedan really is.

4 Renault Vel Satis

The Vel Satis is a weird-looking sedan/hatchback by Renault which was made mainly to stand out from the crowd. The name is a mix of velocity and satisfaction which is the first quirk of this car. It was once Renault's flagship car and it also was used as the French presidential car until 2009.

Some call it ugly while others say it's unique. It rivaled the likes of the E-Class or A6 yet the Vel Satis was just too weird. It was targeted at those who wanted to stand out. To step away from the normal boring German sedan. Luckily there are still plenty of cars like this which make you step away from the world of German cars.

3 Citroën DS

Here is a car that got 80,000 deposits on the first day it was launched. It is a car from France you will easily fall in love with since it is so weird and iconic. It had hydraulic controlled suspension called hydropneumatic suspension and it meant this thing could be comfortable anytime anywhere.

Over a million of these quirky things were sold worldwide, mainly in France. They had proper character being so radical. It was also the first mass-produced vehicle ever to have disk brakes. It set new standards in the industry on how a luxury car should ride, handle, and feel.

2 Lamborghini LM002

The LM002 is a weird SUV/truck and probably one of the strangest things you will ever see. Under the hood is either a Countach 5.2 V12 or a 7.3 marine V12 found in a powerboat. The LM002 is a luxurious car with crazy looks and a lot of interior space. It is menacing and it will turn a lot of heads.

via Supercars.net

The LM002 was originally an army project like GM's Hummer H1. Just things were more extreme here. This was probably the first super SUV ever and it was just so wild it hardly sold well at all.

1 Range Rover Evoque Convertible

Via Motor1

The standard Evoque is pretty normal. Chop the roof off and things get weird. It is a badass little SUV but the fact is that this is a convertible Range Rover which really does not make much sense. The roof up this SUV looks weird like a coupe on stilts but the roof down this SUV does look good.

Via Land Rover

It is a rare car as not too many were made. It was bold and radical and a car completely different from its rivals. An SUV trying to be a convertible. It also had a cool rear tailgate which you could sit on when opened.
