The Taycan is currently Porsche’s only fully-electric vehicle, and after its official release in 2019, it has already become one of the brand’s best-selling performance cars alongside the 911 and just behind the Cayenne and Macan SUVs in sales.

The electric Porsche comes in many trim levels, starting with the 402 hp base Taycan and finishing off with the range-topping 750 hp Taycan Turbo S, though any variant is immensely capable in its own right. However, a quick glance at the spec sheet is all that’s necessary to realize that the Taycan Turbo S is on a whole other level.

With a sticker price of nearly $190,000, it’s no surprise that the Turbo S offers performance that’s good enough to compete against the most capable supercars, and power is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the top-notch Taycan. Here’s why it’s so special.

The Taycan Turbo S Is Basically A Supercar

Despite not being marketed as a true-bred supercar, mostly because of its lesser trims that appeal to more tame enthusiasts, Porsche’s Taycan Turbo S is actually just as good as many petrol-powered supercars, and it has a taste for the track unlike any other electric car in its price range.

The Taycan Turbo S features a dual electric motor setup with one on each axle, for a combined output of 750 horsepower and 774 pound-feet of torque. The all-wheel-drive electric sedan can accelerate from 0-60 mph in as quick as 2.4 seconds on its way to a top speed of 162 miles per hour. On paper, these numbers may not seem too special when compared to the Tesla Model S Plaid, which is even quicker from 0-60, but the Taycan Turbo S would still dismantle the S Plaid on a track.

Unlike any current Tesla, the Taycan Turbo S was specifically built to prioritize performance over range and efficiency, and that means handling was just as emphasized as power. Porsche’s immaculate chassis tuning - along with active handling features such as torque vectoring and rear-axle steering, the Taycan Turbo S can corner like the best of them even at high speeds, and it follows the driver’s inputs with immense precision and steering response. Furthermore, its powerful brakes can handle several laps without issue, while the same isn’t true for any current Tesla.

It’s easy to forget that the Taycan Turbo S is a 4-door sedan when you look at its specs and performance capabilities, and many might overlook the advantages it provides as such. Unlike most vehicles in its performance range, the electric Porsche offers a back row of seats that can easily accommodate children and even adults for shorter periods. It also offers 16 cubic feet of cargo space, and the fact that it’s an EV means that it's incredibly efficient despite providing less than 200 miles of autonomous range.

Like most Porsches, the interior of the Taycan Turbo S displays the finest of materials, and the overall layout is intuitive, comfortable, and driver-oriented. The leather-upholstered bucket seats are dreamy, and plushy or shiny trimming can be found all over, from the center cupholders to the steering wheel and A/C vents.

The center console features a dual-screen setup, the first of which covers the Taycan’s basic features like climate control setting and power-operated trunk and hood controls. Above that, you’ll find an infotainment screen that takes care of cabin settings, entertainment, and other connectivity functions. Lastly, there’s the Taycan’s impressive and highly-configurable gauge cluster screen, which comes in the form of an enormous and curved glass panel with touch-sensitive edges that control the headlights, traction control, and even suspension.

As far as EV sedans go, Porsche's take on the segment is undoubtedly one of the most stunning in the entire industry. While other electric vehicles haven't quite figured out how to replace the vacant bumper space that's usually occupied by grilles in petrol-powered cars, the Taycan seamlessly displays an aggressive front end that makes it instantly recognizable as a Porsche. A sloping hood with tasteful bodylines runs steeply between a pair of arched fenders, which feed into a headlight + air intake setup that looks mean, modern, and unique, completed by a thin nose and subtle front lip. Down the flank, the Taycan boasts a curvy roofline silhouette and relaxed yet noticeable side skirts, as well as a large air outlet behind the front fender. Lastly, from the rear, the Turbo S showcases a gorgeous light bar that houses the taillights and signals, giving the vehicle a modern EV-style touch.

Porsche's Taycan Turbo S can be specked in three different exterior configurations, the first of which is the well-known sedan setup that was the only one available upon initial release. Now, however, there's also the Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo, which comes in the form of an estate-type crossover, or the Tayan Turbo S Sport Turismo, also featuring an estate rear-end for added practicality.

Rounding things up, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is one of the most complete EV sedans currently on sale. It provides plenty of power sided with top-notch handling, and best of all, it's also a practical daily driver. Porsche’s EV Turbo S might be expensive, but it’s definitely worth every penny.
