Richard Hammond has had the chance to drive the most exotic cars in the world, and therefore, it might be a little odd to find out he daily drives a Land Rover Defender. DriveTribe just uploaded a new video on its YouTube channel of the former Top Gear host showcasing his modified Defender in true Richard Hammond style.

“I’d like to introduce you to one of the most important cars in my workshop show, not one of the most, but the most important. It’s this one, my Land Rover. It is my Land Rover and I have had it from new, so that’s what, nine years,” Hammond said.

Hammond's Defender Is Overworking Lately

Hammond confesses the Land Rover has been a toy only until recently when he started his new show, The Smallest Cog. According to Hammond, it’s been overworking as the shop truck and is hardly ever seen without a trailer or something on it.

Initially, Hammond did not use the Defender as much, his wife and daughters, however, did. And when he came back from his trips, it was always in a sorry state. His wife and kids left all sorts of things inside. He always complained to his wife about this.

“Since I have been using this as my daily work truck, as Mindy uses the family car as her daily work truck, it’s less immaculate than it was when I’d return home use it briefly and go back to work somewhere exotic. This is a confession,” he said.

He starts the review by saying it is impossible to keep a daily driver immaculate. He opens the rear right-hand side door and one by one begins removing his belongings. Hammond needs most of the things in the Land Rover to run his new classic car restoration show including souvenirs, and promotional material.

He takes a sizable amount of stuff from the front cabin that piles up on the ground and later heads back. It’s full of merchandise boxes.

“Really, what I have discovered is, Mindy, you were right. You can’t use your car every day without it carrying everything you might need, whatever you encounter, so, I was wrong,” Hammond said.

As the video ends, he poses a question to his wife. “Is your daily driver worse, or even better populated with useful stuff, than mine is?”
