In the recent research conducted by ISeeCars.com, the Subaru Crosstrek has emerged as the fastest-selling car in the United States for June 2022. According to the study, a model of this jacked-up hatchback took an average of 12.9 days to sell from a dealer lot. What's even more interesting to note here is that the average price of a Crosstrek sold during this period stood at around $30,000. The Crosstrek was followed by other popular models such as the Honda Civic, Subaru Forester, Honda CR-V, and the Subaru Impreza, which made up for the rest of the top five slots on this list, respectively.

There is no denying the fact that there is an increased demand in the market for small SUVs and vehicles that offer good fuel-efficiency figures. The top five cars on this list are a testament to that market sentiment. But what are the reasons that made the Subaru Crosstrek bag the top spot?

We think that one of the main reasons for the Crosstrek to emerge as the fastest-selling car in June 2022 was its availability across a more broad price band, that too within a relatively affordable bracket. With prices starting from $23,645 for the Base trim and going up to $36,845 for the hybrid, this car offers a unique package across its grades that fit the requirements of a vast customer base.

To illustrate, the Crosstrek is available with a choice of three powertrains. The base two trims, the Base and Premium, come with a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine. This unit produces 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. As standard, it is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. However, these two trims are also available with the option of a CVT automatic.

The Sport and Limited grades are available as standard with a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine. This higher capacity unit can produce 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired to a CVT automatic which comes with the facility of an 8-speed manual mode.

The top-spec Hybrid trim of the Crosstrek also gets the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. However, here its power output is limited to 137 horsepower and 134 lb-ft of torque. That said, being a hybrid, it comes with an electric motor that produces the equivalent of 118 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque. The combined power output of the hybrid system is 148 horsepower, and the engine is paired to a CVT automatic.

All the grades of the Crosstrek come as standard with Subaru's all-wheel drive system. Not only this, but the Sport, Limited, and Hybrid grades get the automaker's off-road dedicated 'X-mode' as a standard fitment. This mode is also available as an optional extra on the Base and Premium grades.

Another factor that we believe played a significant role in the increased popularity of the Subaru Crosstrek is its high fuel-efficiency figures. The 2.0-liter boxer engine has an EPA-certified rating of 33 MPG on the highway and 28 MPG in the city. On the other hand, the 2.5-liter engine of this car has an EPA-certified fuel-efficiency figure of 24 MPG on the highway and 27 MPG in the city. While for the hybrid powertrain, this figure stands at a combined 35 MPG, with 90 miles of electric-only range.

A decent towing capability further increases the practicality aspect of the Crosstrek. The 2.0-liter and the 2.5-liter Boxer engine can tow a maximum weight of 1,500 lbs. While for the hybrid powertrain, this figure stands at 1,000 lbs

Even the base trim comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system that offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Moving up the grades, you will get an 8-inch infotainment unit with the option to upgrade to a Harman Kardon sound system.

There are cloth upholstered seats in the Base and Premium grades, water repellent in the Sport, while the Limited and Hybrid come with leather upholstery. Automatic climate control is standard across all variants, and so is cruise control. Heated front seats are available on all but the Base trim. While only the hybrid comes with the option of a heated steering wheel.

Adding to the practicality of the Subaru Crosstrek is 20.8 cubic feet of cargo volume and 60/40 split-folding rear seats. Furthermore, the boot comes with 2 dedicated hooks for grocery bags in addition to 4 tie-down hooks as well.

In addition, this vehicle has 7 airbags, including dual-front, side-curtain, front side, and driver knee airbags.

Higher grades are also available with additional safety equipment such as the Subaru's EyeSight driver assistance technology. This includes automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with lane centering.
